NORTH
ATLANTIC COUNCIL VISIT TO
AFGHANISTAN
The North Atlantic
Council, NATO’s highest level decision-making body, is visiting
Afghanistan from 19 to
21 February
2008. The visit is led by the NATO
Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The
Alliance’s Supreme Allied
Commander Europe, General John Craddock, and the Deputy Chairman of the Military
Committee, Lieutenant General K.W. Eikenberry, are accompanying the
Council.
During the visit,
the Council will travel to various ISAF installations and NATO-led Provincial
Reconstruction Teams.
The Council will
hold meetings with President Karzai and other key representatives from the
Afghan Government and Parliament. It will also meet with the Commander of the
ISAF mission, General McNeill, with the acting NATO Senior Civilian
Representative in Afghanistan, Ambassador M.
Jochems, and members of the international community in
Kabul.
