After a week and a half of exercises in the Adriatic and Mediterranean, Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) is in port after its deployment, and resupplying in Souda Bay, Crete.

NATO is supporting national efforts to extinguish the wildfires raging in many countries across the Alliance. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has recently deployed 40 aircraft, including firefighting helicopters and airplanes, to support firefighters in Greece. This comes at the request of the Greek authorities.

NATO’s Air Shielding mission is an increased air and missile defence posture along the Alliance’s eastern flank, implemented in the wake of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. Allies have deployed more fighter jets and ground-based air and missile defence systems to protect Allies along the eastern flank against possible air and missile threats.
