From 17 to 18 January 2024, the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The 31 Allied Chiefs of Defence and Invitee Sweden focused on the executability of the Allianceâs new defence plans, NATOâs warfighting transformation, NATOâs continued support to Ukraine and military cooperation with NATO partners Australia, Austria, Ireland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and Switzerland. During the two-day meeting, the Chiefs of Defence met for the first time in a NATO-Ukraine Council format.

This year marks 20 years since - on 29 March 2004 - Slovenia joined NATO, and the country has been part of NATOâs Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS). The system ensures the continuous exchange of airspace information with the Alliance and the protection of Slovenian airspace by Allied and Slovenian military interceptor aircraft as Slovenia's Control and Reporting Centre monitors and controls the country's airspace 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Exercise Strong Balkan 23 recently took place in Albania, and featured Special Operations Forces from seven NATO Allies, namely Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania and Türkiye, as well as observers from NATO partner Bosnia and Herzegovina.
