NASA EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH RUSSIAN FEDERAL SPACE AGENCY
WASHINGTON -- NASA has signed a $141 million modification to the current International Space Station contract with the Russian Federal Space Agency for crew transportation services planned through the spring of 2012
The firm-fixed price extension covers comprehensive Soyuz support, including all necessary training and preparation for launch, crew rescue, and landing of a long-duration mission for three station crew members The crew members will launch on two Soyuz vehicles in the fall of 2011 They will land in the spring of 2012 The flights may be used to meet NASA's obligations to its international partners for transportation to and from the station
The contract extension also provides for the two Soyuz flights to carry limited cargo to and from the station and dispose of trash The cargo allowed per person is approximately 110 pounds (50 kilograms) launched to the station, approximately 37 pounds (17 kilograms) returned to Earth, and trash disposal of approximately 66 pounds (30 kilograms)

ULTIMATE "ASK THE EXPERTS" EXPERIENCE FOR CORPUS CHRISTI STUDENTS
HOUSTON -- Students from the STARBASE Atlantis Naval Air Station education program in Corpus Christi, Texas, will have an opportunity to experience the excitement of spaceflight first hand They will be participating in a live in-flight education downlink on Tuesday, Dec 9, from 10:40 a m to 11 a m CST with the astronauts living on the International Space Station: Expedition 18 Commander Mike Fincke and Flight Engineer Sandy Magnus
Fifth and sixth grade students and STARBASE Atlantis alumni will participate in the downlink To prepare for the event, the students participated in education activities to learn about the space station's modules, mission objectives and experiments
The Corpus Christi STARBASE students are partnering with sister STARBASE academy students in Meridian, Miss , for the event Also present will be students who attend the Corpus Christi latch key program as well as members of the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi community
NASA's education downlinks, facilitated by NASA's Teaching From Space Office, use the unique experience of human spaceflight to encourage students to study and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics
The downlink will air live on NASA Television and be streamed on the NASA Web site at:
