Jason (and all),
I see that Stephanie is also working this issue. At the risk of confusing things even more, I'd suggest that we also pull in the technology folks as well. They might well have a list (from Spinoff or elsewhere) that identifies the path of technologies
from initial failures to later success.
Quite frankly, this is not something that the history office has sitting in the can for the Times Magazine to come promote for us. Even if we were to drop every other thing we are doing, I have a hard time imagining how we could come up with the kind
of answer that we'd really like to see highlighted in this sort of venue in one workday. I'm happy to help, but I do think that a dose of realism is warranted here.
Bill
Thanks. Just want to make sure someone gets back to the Times.
Thanks,
-Jason

Hi Jason,
I think the History Office you should be the lead on this request. We need to start with the notable failures, not sure, which ones NY Times would want to concentrate on, satellites, launches, aircrafts, rockets, communications, etc., then see if maybe
there is a photo that exist of it. I have copied the History Office on this request maybe they can share where this information could be. Unfortunately, there is no one place where all of these images exist so which ever area they want to concentrate on it
would need to be a collaboration of maybe the History Office and the Photo Office. I know we don’t have them all either, but I can help once we find out what they need.
Bill, Jane and others, can you all contact NY Times? I don’t have enough knowledge of all the failures to date to know where to steer them.
Thanks
Connie

Subject: NTY Magazine- urgent photo request
Hello John & Jason,
The New York Times Magazine is currently working on our annual Innovations issue. This year we are focusing on the nobel failures that are necessary to bring about innovation and change. It is only through
these failings we are able to learn and progress.
We're searching for a photo essay that encapsulates this concept best. We wanted to see if NASA had an archive of rarely seen images of these nobel failures and inventions that were ahead of their time
to feature in the magazine.
We are specifically searching for images of projects that were noble failures, and a link to the entire archive. We're on an extremely tight deadline and would need to move on this right away, I'd love
to speak with someone this afternoon to see what could be possible.
Thank you,
Christine
