MEDIA VIEWING OF HUBBLE HARDWARE FOR NEXT SHUTTLE MISSION SET
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla - The hardware that will be flown aboard space shuttle Atlantis' upcoming mission to NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, or HST, will be available for media viewing at the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday, Sept 10 Media will be able to view and photograph the four payload carriers that will go into Atlantis' cargo bay this month
Media attending the event need to arrive at Kennedy's News Center by 9 a m
Dates and times of events are subject to change, especially given the uncertainty of tropical weather Updates are available by calling 321-867-2525
After arriving at Kennedy's Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility, or PHSF, where the flight hardware is being processed, media representatives will receive a brief orientation to explain the primary payload flight hardware that will be seen and their mission objectives Media representatives then will be taken inside the clean room high bay at the PHSF
The following managers will be available for interviews:
Other members of the Goddard Hubble servicing mission processing team and astrophysics division from NASA's Science Mission Directorate also will be available for interviews
Because of the stringent contamination controls in effect for this spacecraft inside the high bay, all photography equipment must be precision-cleaned with the assistance or supervision of Hubble personnel Those planning to attend are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes Everyone must wear clean room attire, which means full bunny suits, before entering the high bay This includes hood, coveralls, booties, facemask and gloves Electronic flash photography will be permitted The lighting in the facility is high pressure sodium, orange
No suede, leather, vinyl attire or vinyl accessories will be permitted inside the clean room Also, no food, tobacco, lighters or matches, chewing gum, hair combs, pocket knives, paper or pencils will be permitted inside the clean room Special writing materials will be furnished Also, to meet the stringent contamination controls in effect, those attending are asked not to wear hairspray, deodorant, cosmetics, jewelry, aftershave or perfume
