The National Military Family Association (NMFA) has selected the America Supports You program as the recipient of their "Award for Support of Military Families" for 2006.
NMFA will be presenting this award at their annual congressional reception to be held today, Wednesday, Sept.
27, 2006, from 5 p.m.
to 7 p.m EDT in the Hart Senate Office Building, Room 902.
NMFA chose the DoD program, America Supports You, for its contributions in increasing the connectivity between the many individuals and organizations-large and small-interested in supporting service members and families.
The America Supports You Web site and corresponding programs provide a means to connect those who need support with local organizations that can help.
Additionally, America Supports You gives these supporting organizations much needed publicity to get their message out, inform the community about the resources they provide, and attract financial supporters and volunteers.
Its efforts also let service members and families know their service and sacrifice are recognized and appreciated.
Also receiving the award will be Sen.
Mike DeWine, Sen.
Carl Levin, Gerald Leeling (Senate Armed Services Committee staff) and Jean Silvernail (DoD Office of Military Community and Family Policy).
Other distinguished guests in attendance include: Sen.
Lindsey Graham, Rep.
Charles Taylor, Rep.
Henry Brown and Rep.
James Walsh.
NMFA is a member of the America Supports You program.
NMFA's mission is to educate military families about their rights and benefits and inform policymakers about the special challenges of military life.
