Finally...
An updated version to the ooTunes Radio app for iPhone/iPod Touch should be available very soon (it was just approved)!!!
The free update will show up in the "updates" tab within the blue "App Store" app on your iPhone/iPod Touch.
If you didn't buy it yet,
Get it in iTunes!
So, what's in this update? A lot! (When you get 3 chances at it... um, thanks Apple... then you get to keep adding features :)
First thing you'll notice...
a New Icon!
And nothing else changed...
(just kidding)
Radio Mode changes:
- Added shake to shuffle
- Added browse by Genre, Country and Major US Cities
- Much faster loading of stream database
- Lower memory footprint for stream database and wma streaming
- Better buffering and faster connection times for (most) wma streams
- Delete individual favorites, recents, most played, tags and tagged streams
- "radio only" toggle on first load so you never have to tap it again.
- Stop and Start a stream with a single tap
Over 5000 streams now! (these show up automatically when the database is refreshed)
ooTunes Server Mode changes:
- Shake to shuffle any playlist.
- Added browse by Album, Artist and Genre
- Login using an account other than your ooTunes "master" account
- Improved playback of some tracks that wouldn't play.
- Improved playback of very short tracks.
- Ability to specify "Max bitrate" for audio files to be transcoded on the server (if you experience a lot of buffering, try lowering the max bitrate in the "Settings" app)
Nearly everything I added or fixed was a suggestion from you, the users, so again, thanks, and keep the feedback coming! (No one asked for the "shake to shuffle" but I'll be honest, it's almost addicting to play a random station that way... you never know what you'll hear... (I can only imagine what it would be like if there were more "police scanners" in the DB!
In the future, look for better automatic restart when a stream drops out, configurable buffering, and a few surprise features I've been thinking alot about. Also
As always...
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK! It's got a long way to go 'til it does everything I want it to.
If you like it, please TELL YOUR FRIENDS, leave a review in the App Store (or update it if you already left one and this fixes any issues), blog about it, tell your favorite radio stations to promote it!
I've also been working hard to make the ooTunes Media Server a bit easier to setup (still no silver bullet unfortunately), with better documentation and some cool new features, so check it out if you haven't, or want to give it another try.
Thanks for your support!
