The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) Airborne eXpendable Conductivity Temperature Depth (AXCTD) Version 1 dataset. The OMG mission aims to improve estimates of sea level rise by addressing the question: To what extent are the oceans melting Greenland’s ice from below? More information regarding OMG data are available from the OMG website and also via PO.DAAC’s OMG mission webpage.
This dataset release includes the L2 vertical profile AXCTD data. AXCTD instruments were deployed from aircraft, wherein once they hit the water a probe is released that measures temperature, depth, and conductivity. The first airborne deployment campaign was in 2016 and will continue into 2020, with 2-4 campaigns a year lasting between 2 to 4 weeks. Each file contains the data from one AXCTD instrument probe vertical profile. Data files are in netCDF format and compliant with CF metadata conventions.
The OMG AXCTD Version 1 dataset is described and discoverable via the PO.DAAC data portal. The dataset information pages also provide access to the technical documentation and guidance on how to cite the data.
