NATOâs highest Military Authority, the Military Committee, will meet at the Chiefs of Defence level from 26 to 27 September 2025, in Riga, Latvia. The Chair of the Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, will preside the meeting, attended as well by the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe (SACEUR), General Alexus G. Grynkewich, and the Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation (SACT), Admiral Pierre Vandier.
Together, NATOâs senior military leadership will reflect on the follow up from the historic NATO Summit in The Hague, in particular by addressing the further strengthening of the Allianceâs collective deterrence and defence. The Opening Remarks will be livestreamed, and CMC and Latvian Chief of Defence will hold a press conference at the conclusion of the meeting.
The Military Committee meets in Chiefs of Defence Session (MC/CS) twice a year (January and May) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Additionally, once a year, one of the Allies hosts a special Conference, once again gathering all the 32 Chiefs. Other extraordinary meetings can be called during the year, if deemed necessary. The Military Committee convenes to discuss NATO operations, missions, exercises, capabilities and other relevant subjects. Its main role is to provide the North Atlantic Council with unfettered, consensus-based military advice on how the Alliance can best address global security challenges. On a day-to-day basis, its work is carried out by Alliesâ Military Representatives, at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
