Large Hole in the Sun's Atmosphere Faces Earth

July 22nd 2018 PDT

Space Weather News for July 22, 2018 http://spaceweather.com https://www.facebook.com/spaceweatherdotcom A LARGE HOLE IN THE SUN'S ATMOSPHERE: A large hole has opened in the sun's atmosphere and it is spewing a stream of solar wind toward Earth. NOAA forecasters estimate a 65% chance of minor geomagnetic storms when the gaseous material arrives on July 24th. Such holes are primary sources of solar activity during solar minimum, both forming and staying open longer when sunspots are absent. Lea ...Continue Reading

Spiders and Space Weather

July 20th 2018 PDT

Space Weather News for July 20, 2018 http://spaceweather.com https://www.facebook.com/spaceweatherdotcom SPIDERS AND SPACE WEATHER: Did you know that spiders can fly? New research shows that arachnids can launch themselves into the air using electric fields as a form of propulsion. These fields, which occur naturally in Earth's atmosphere, are linked to cosmic rays and solar activity. This raises the interesting possibility that spider flight and migrations may be controlled, to some degree, b ...Continue Reading
