Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Army Lt. Gen. Charles C. Campbell for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga. Campbell is currently serving as deputy commanding general/chief of staff, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.

Army Lt. Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as special assistant to the commander, U.S. Central Command for the development of regional military capability. Chiarelli is currently serving as commander, Multi-National Corps-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Army Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Peterson for the appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commanding general/chief of staff, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga. Peterson is currently serving as commanding general, Civilian Police Assistance Training Team, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Army Maj. Gen. James D. Thurman for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, V Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Thurman is currently serving as commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (mechanized)/commanding general, Multi-National Division-Baghdad, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
