NATO Foreign Ministers to meet
11 Jan. 2007 - To mark a busy beginning of the new year, the Allies decided to convene a meeting of Foreign Ministers to focus primarily on Afghanistan and Kosovo. It will take place at NATO HQ on 26 January.
NATO Secretary General’s term extended
10 Jan. 2007 - On 10 January, the North Atlantic Council decided to extend the Secretary General’s tenure of office to enable him to prepare and preside over the events marking the 60th anniversary of the Alliance in 2009.
Latvian official receives NATO medal
10 Jan. 2007 - During the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, 10 January, the NATO Secretary General presented Mr. Edgars Rinkevics, Latvian State Secretary, with the NATO Meritorious Service Medal.
New Iraqi officers graduate
10 Jan. 2007 - In December, some 200 new officers graduated from the NATO-supported Iraqi Military Academy after successfully completing a demanding 12-month course.
Disarmament assistance in Afghanistan
10 Jan. 2007 - Lithuanian troops from the NATO-led force in Afghanistan recently assisted authorities in the disbandment of illegally armed groups in the west of the country.
Chinese official visits NATO HQ
11 Jan. 2007 - On 9 January, the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Ambassador Martin Erdmann, met at NATO HQ in Brussels with the Chinese Director General for European Affairs, Mr. Li Ruiyu.
