NATO PA PRESIDENT VISITS CHINA

José Lello, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), together with Simon Lunn, Secretary General, is conducting a Presidential visit to China, from 17 to 20 September.

Mr Lello is holding meetings in Beijing with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan, the Ministry of Commerce and the Chinese PeopleÂ’s Political Consultative Conference. A visit to ShenyangÂ’s industrial park, hosted by local authorities, will conclude Mr. LelloÂ’s trip to China.

Background

 The NATO Parliamentary Assembly, founded in 1955 with a Brussels-based secretariat,

brings together 248 national parliamentarians from the 26 NATO countries.

In addition, 16 associate delegations from Central and Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Russia;

5 Mediterranean Associate delegations: Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Mauritania and Israel

and 6 Parliamentary Observer delegations participate in Assembly activities and meetings.
