NATO and Pakistan to tackle common challenges

NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, met with the President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf at the Conrad Hotel in Brussels on 21 January. Serge Brammertz, the new prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer on 17 January. Mr. Brammertz recently replaced former ICTY prosecutor Carla Del Ponte.

Members of Parliament from the Arab Republic of Egypt visit NATO

On 17 January the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organised a high-level visit to NATO of members of the Egyptian Parliament. Participants met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and other high-level NATO officials.

“Assisting Afghanistan: the importance of a comprehensive approach”

NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero addressed NATO involvement in Afghanistan at the GLOBESEC conference held in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 17 January. In his speech, he pointed out the importance of the International Community, and the Afghan Government, adopting a comprehensive approach to tackle the current challenges faced by the country.
