The Embassy of Slovenia and the Space History Division of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum would like to invite you to attend the memorial symposium to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first printing of the book "The Problem of Space Travel" by Herman Potoènik Noordung - a pioneer of space travel and modern cosmonautics and astronautics.

- The symposium will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 2.00 pm to 5.00pm at the Embassy of Slovenia (2410 California Street, NW, Washington, DC).

- The symposium will be comprised of two panels. The moderator of both panels will be Dr. Roger Launius, Senior Curator, Division of Space History, National Air and Space Museum.


1. Panel: Herman (Potoènik) Noordung's Work and Ideas

- Dr. Frederick Ordway, a space scientist and a well-known author of visionary books on spaceflight; he was also technical consultant to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

-  Dr. Michael Neufeld, Chair of the Division of Space History, National Air and Space Museum; the author of the award winning biography of Wernher von Braun.

-  Mr. Dragan ®ivadinov, an artist and a cosmonaut candidate, Slovenia.


2. Panel: Possible Futures of Space Travel

-  Ms. Sunita L. Williams (Commander, USN), Deputy Chief, Astronaut Office, Johnson Space Center, NASA. She served as a flight engineer aboard the International Space Station. As a member of the Expedition 14 crew Sunita Williams established a world record for females with four spacewalks. She concluded her tour of duty as a member of the Expedition -15 crew. She holds the record of the longest spaceflight (195 days) for female space travelers.

- Mr. Frederic Nordlund, Head of the Washington Office, European Space Agency.

-  Dr. John Logsdon, Director of the Space Policy Institute, George Washington University.

- Dr. Du¹an Petraè, Retired Space Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

- After the symposium at 5.30 pm the opening of Herman Potoènik Noordung Exhibit will take place.
