PO.DAAC is transitioning its data system operations to a new set of core infrastructure. This infrastructure utilizes a new back-end data management system that supports improved data discovery and access. The first phase of the transition (to be completed by March 31st, 2011) will result in a new web portal and ftp site.
A beta-version of the new portal is available at http://podaac-www.jpl.nasa.gov. We invite you to explore the site and provide us with your comments and feedback.
A beta-version of the new ftp site is at ftp://podaac-ftp.jpl.nasa.gov.
This site organizes our datasets by a common-set of attributes (e.g., mission, sensor and resolution). A result of this reorganization means that some data products categorized in our current operational system have been recategorized as multiple datasets in the new system. If you have scripts that regularly interrogate our FTP site, you will be required to update them in the future. More detail about this will be provided in January.
Members of the PO.DAAC staff will support the NASA Booth during the Fall AGU Meeting in San Francisco. Please visit us if you have questions about the pending transition or other PO.DAAC related concerns. In addition, we have a couple presentations to be given at the booth: "Finding and Accessing Oceanographic Data" at 4:30 pm Thursday 16th Dec, 2010 (Speaker: Charles
Thompson) and "Satellite Ocean Datasets at PO.DAAC" at 10 am Friday 17th Dec, 2010 (Speaker: Jessica Hausman).
Please be aware that until the transition is completed on 31st March, 2011, http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov and ftp://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov remain as our primary access points.
