The PO.DAAC would like to announce the upcoming availability of PO.DAAC OceanESIP Tool, version 2 (POET 2) http://poet.jpl.nasa.gov/. The scheduled release of POET 2.0 will be on Monday, October 10, 2011.

As before, POET provides on-line access and subsetting of many of PO.DAAC's data products. Plots and data subsets are generated on-the-fly and returned directly to a browser. This enables a user to interactively view sea surface fields without the need to download entire files.

An upgrade to the original application, POET 2 includes a series of usability enhancements and bug fixes. While many of the new additions are more helpful in terms of configuration and deployment, here is a list of user oriented features:

- Uses lightweight components
- Panel layout options (tabbed pane and list supported)
- Enhanced data source information support
- Proper time-range selection and scrolling
- Map region scrolling and improved mouse interaction
- Region selection support (a region is predefined geographical area)
- Improved request/result user feedback
- Integration with the updated PO.DAAC web headers
