Dear NASA data user,

NASA Headquarters is conducting a study of the factors affecting data latency (time from satellite acquisition to product distribution to end users) for current and future missions.  This study is being conducted at the request of Steve Volz, under the direction of Frank Lindsay at NASA Headquarters.

The objective of this project is to provide an overarching review of options for meeting latency needs of the broad user communities (both scientific and operational) of NASA data products from future NASA missions.  In this study, we will review options for attaining low latencies on NASA Earth science missions, including direct broadcast, technological developments, ground-based data delivery mechanisms, and stand-alone systems such as LANCE (Land Atmospheres Near-real time Capability for EOS).

An online professional review has been created to facilitate this study.  It will only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.  We are soliciting your responses to gain an understanding of the community’s needs for latency with respect to remotely sensed data products.  The review can be accessed at:https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NASA_Latency

Please feel free to forward to additional people.   Please contact Mark Carroll NASAlatency@gmail.com if you forward to any email listserv as we want to avoid duplicate requests.

Thank you in advance for your participation and we look forward to your responses

Best regards,
