SECRETARY OF DEFENSE CHUCK HAGEL: Hello. Good afternoon. Thank you. I am very grateful for an opportunity to see this church, and to see where my grandparents grew up, and where they were married. I am very proud of my Polish heritage. And I know all of my family is. And some of the most remarkable people I've ever met in my life came from my grandmother's side of the family that started right here. I want to very much thank the clergy and the leaders in the community for inviting me here, and for organizing this, giving me an opportunity to revisit my family, which is memorable for me. And, as I said, I will share this with my family back in the United States. It is a wonderful thing to have the opportunity to come back to a location that had so much to do with shaping me, like we all are shaped by where we come from, and our families. And I'm very proud of that shaping. Thank you very much. |
