The following message has been forwarded to all registered PO.DAAC users on behalf of the KNMI Scatterometer Team. Please direct all related inquiries to scat@knmi.nl.

Dear wind product user,

We plan to discontinue the OSI SAF global Metop-A Hamming window based 12.5 km wind product on Tuesday, 28th of April. The 12.5 km winds have already been replaced by the ASCAT coastal winds for Metop-A and Metop-B in the OSI SAF list of products. The Hamming winds product for Metop-A is only maintained in operations for continuity, while all operational users are migrating to use the coastal winds instead. For Metop-B, the12.5 km Hamming window winds were never produced and the coastal winds were the default 12.5 km product from the beginning.

Note that this only affects the global 12.5 km wind product (http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/ascat_osi_12_prod/). The 12.5 km regional EARS wind products for Metop-A and Metop-B will be continued, although at some point in the future they will also be migrated to coastal winds.

Users utilising the 12.5 km soil moisture information in the combined 12.5 km Hamming window BUFR product can switch to the sigma0 and soil moisture product, available in the same BUFR format on EUMETCast. See also http://www.eumetsat.int/website/home/News/DAT_2568133.html for more information.

For the 25 km ASCAT products, nothing will change.

If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate to contact us on scat@knmi.nl.

Best regards,
Anton Verhoef
