NATO Defence Ministers build momentum toward stronger NATO-EU cooperation

Joined by High Representative Federica Mogherini and Defence Ministers from Finland and Sweden, NATO Defence Ministers met today to review the unprecedented progress that has been achieved over the past two years in NATO-EU cooperation. The two organisations have been working together on 74 concrete areas of cooperation, including hybrid and cyber, maritime operations, exercises and military mobility, and the fight against terrorism. NATO and EU leaders plan to sign a new joint declaration in July to further enhance their level of cooperation.

NATO Defence Ministers take steps to further strengthen deterrence and defence

Today, NATO Defence Ministers took important steps to strengthen the Alliance’s Command Structure to ensure rapid reinforcement across the Atlantic and Europe. Ministers decided to add more than 1,200 personnel to the Command Structure. The Alliance will also establish a new Joint Force Command for the Atlantic at Norfolk, Virginia (USA) and a new Enabling Command at Ulm (Germany). Ministers also endorsed a new NATO Readiness Initiative and discussed the importance of continuing to increase defence investments to make the Alliance stronger and more agile in response to the most serious security challenges in a generation.
