The NATO-Russia Council, which brings together all 29 NATO Allies and Russia, met in Brussels on Friday (5 July 2019) to discuss Ukraine, the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, and transparency and risk reduction.

On 1 July 2019, Dr Bryan Wells (UK) takes office as the NATO Chief Scientist. In this capacity, he serves in a double role as the senior scientific advisor to NATO leadership and as the Chairman of the NATO Science & Technology Board.

On Thursday (27 June 2019), NATO marked 10 years since the Alliance’s fleet of Globemaster transport aircraft made its maiden flight, a major step in Allies’ ability to move personnel and equipment across the world.

Maritime security is high on NATO’s agenda. In 2016, NATO launched a maritime security operation in the Mediterranean Sea – called Sea Guardian – to deter and counter terrorism and other threats to Allied maritime security. Sea Guardian also provides maritime situational awareness and can carry out tasks to help build naval capacity of NATO partners.
