The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the JPL MEaSUREs Gridded Sea Surface Height Anomalies Level 4 Version 2205 dataset. This is an update to the previous version, JPL MEaSUREs Gridded Sea Surface Height Anomalies Level 4 Version 1812. The files come in 3 latencies: a few months (Final product), a few weeks (Interim product), or a few days (Near Real Time product). The latency of the product is indicated in each file’s metadata.

This dataset provides gridded Sea Surface Height Anomalies (SSHA) above a mean sea surface, on a 1/6th degree grid every 5 days starting from 10 October 1992. The gridded data are derived using Kriging interpolation of the along-track SSHA data of TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1, Jason-2, Jason-3 and Jason-CS (Sentinel-6) as reference data from the level 2 along-track data found at https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/dataset/MERGED_TP_J1_OSTM_OST_CYCLES_V51, plus ERS-1, ERS-2, Envisat, SARAL-AltiKa, CryoSat-2, depending on the date, from the RADS database. More information is available from the mission website and also via PO.DAAC’s mission webpage.

The JPL MEaSUREs Gridded Sea Surface Height Anomalies Level 4 Version 2205 datasets are described and discoverable via the PO.DAAC data portal at:

https://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/dataset/SEA_SURFACE_HEIGHT_ALT_GRIDS_L4_2SATS_5DAY_6THDEG_V_JPL2205

The data can be accessed through PO.DAAC Drive and/or OPeNDAP. Visit the PO.DAAC Drive Data Recipes post on PO.DAAC’s forum for instructions about how to download files from PO.DAAC Drive using command-line tools. Example wget command:

$ wget --user=API_USERNAME --password=API_PASSWORD -r -nc -np -nH -nd -A *.nc https://podaac-tools.jpl.nasa.gov/drive/files/allData/merged_alt/L4/cdr_grid/

Note that this dataset is to be but has not yet migrated to the Earthdata cloud. AWS-based cloud tools and services are not currently available.
