NATO Allies sign Accession Protocols for Finland and Sweden

NATO Ambassadors signed the Accession Protocols for Finland and Sweden at NATO Headquarters on 5 July 2022, in the presence of Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: “This is truly an historic moment. For Finland, for Sweden, for NATO, and for our shared security.”

Sweden and NATO train to keep Gotland secure

Situated roughly 100 kilometres off the Swedish coast, the island of Gotland is of strategic importance, as it has a commanding view of the Baltic Sea. Should a crisis occur, the island would provide the Swedish Armed Forces with an advantage to influence air and maritime traffic.
