Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to NATO Headquarters on 20 October 2022 for discussions on Sweden and Finland’s applications to join the Alliance. “Joining the Alliance will make you safer, NATO stronger and the Euro-Atlantic area more secure,” said the Secretary General.

As part of the measures to reinforce the eastern part of the Alliance, the Danish Armed Forces have deployed a battalion along with other units in Latvia. With approximately 750 soldiers, the Danish soldiers are helping to reinforce the Baltic region after Russia’s unjustified and brutal invasion of Ukraine. These actions demonstrate Allies’ solidarity, determination and ability to defend Alliance territory and populations.
