NATO Crisis Management Exercise 2023 (CMX23)

The NATO Crisis Management Exercise 2023 (CMX 2023), designed to test Alliance consultation and decision-making procedures at the strategic political-military level, will take place between 9 and 15 March 2023. This is the Alliance’s 23rd CMX since 1992.

The exercise will involve civilian and military staffs in Allied and Finland and Sweden’s capitals, at NATO Headquarters and in Strategic Commands. As with previous CMX exercises, CMX 2023 involves no deployed forces.

CMX 2023 will include practising comprehensive responses to a complex civil-military scenario, set in a hybrid environment.

Finland and Sweden participated in previous iterations of the exercise. This year, for the first time, they will participate in accordance with their new status as Invitees.

CMX 2023 will also include staff-to-staff exchanges with the European External Action Service, the European Commission and the General Secretariat of the European Council and the Council of the European Union.

There will be no media opportunities during CMX23.
