In chilly and challenging southern Finland, US Marines and the Finnish Navyâs Nyland Brigade recently trained together in the lead-up to the Finnish-led exercise Freezing Winds 22. Over three rigorous months, the newest member of NATO showed their US friends how to navigate Finlandâs icy waters during the longest deployment of US Marines to the country.

From 2 to 5 May 2023, the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak was in Finland, where he met with various military officials to discuss security priorities and opportunities for military integration. This visit comes on the heels of Finlandâs accession to the Alliance on the 4th April 2023.

The 22 Allies participating in the NATO Innovation Fund have completed the formation of the Board of Directors. The remaining six Directors were appointed on 27 April 2023.

On 28 April 2023, ambassadors of NATOâs North Atlantic Council, military representatives from the NATO Military Committee and other senior military officials visited His Majestyâs Naval Base Clyde in Scotland, home to the United Kingdomâs independent nuclear deterrent. This was the second visit by the North Atlantic Council to an Allied nuclear submarine base this month, following a visit to the French nuclear base of Ile Longue.
