NASA History Talk:  “For the Love of Mars: A Human History of the Red Planet” by Matthew Shindell

Time/Date/Location:  noon – 1 pm ET, Wednesday June 21, virtual via MS Teams link (no prior registration necessary)

Contact:  Steve Garber (stephen.j.garber@nasa.gov)

Description:  Not Another Mars book!  One could build a small library from all of the Mars books published since the dawn of the space age.  In addition to being the most visited planet in our solar system, the red planet has also attracted the most historical and literary attention.  So why write another book about Mars?  In this talk, National Air and Space Museum historian and curator Dr. Matthew Shindell discusses his new Mars book, For the Love of Mars: A Human History of the Red Planet, why he wrote it, and what he hoped it might achieve. He will also address the challenges of attempting to synthesize thousands of years of history and literature in one book.
