On 11 September 2026, a solemn ceremony was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. The event was attended by permanent representatives of Alliance nations as well as members of NATOâs diplomatic, military, and international staff community.

On 10 September 2026, âââââNATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed the annual German Heads of Mission Conference in Berlin, highlighting Germanyâs leadership in building a stronger Europe within a stronger, fairer and more capable NATO. Mr Rutte said Germany is leading in the most profound transformation of the Alliance since the Cold War â NATO 3.0 â in which European Allies and Canada take greater responsibility for their security. There is a shift in mindset that âsecurity is not something the US should do for us, but with us,â the Secretary General noted.
