You know, this really pisses me off. Spending $42.00 on a DVD disc, Pearl Harbour. I have only had it just over 12 months, there is not a mark on it and its fucked. Went back to the shop, they will not replace it, so I came home with the shits and said to myself (this will never happen again). Phil

I agree.. rip off.. the other day I was at the local video store, Network Video.. I chose a DVD and went to the counter. As I say hello to the person behind the counter, he proceeds to tell me off saying that the last DVD I hired was scratched by me.. How can this be when, after watching it, IMMEDIATELY put the DVD back in the case and took it back. He said well you must have. He then rambled on about the cost of the DVD's comes out of his pocket blah blah blah, I thought to myself, well DVD's are so incredibly fragile, so if you are going to chuck a spaz everytime one is alledgedly 'scratched' then why let people hire them? But Ahh! There is the problem, most people today have DVD players, actually ther are only a few of my friends who still don't have a DVD player, after all even Phillips have now stopped producing VCRs. So therefore if the Video Man did not hire these discs out, then he would lose a lot of money. So it's a viscious cycle.. Buy DVDs = costs money.... Don't buy DVDs = Lose money, so because the video cassette is being slowly phased out, the movie companies capitalise on that, and they wonder why people would rather buy pirated copies than the real thing... I would hate to meet the marketing team at those companies..

Yes piracy is a problem but the problem starts with them. The average price for a DVD manufactured and delivered anywhere in the world is 45 cents so how in the hell do you get $42 for Pearl Harbour?.
Its greed Money$$$$$$$$$$$$ and more of it, it's like piracy for Pay tv, if it was not so dear people would not have to steal it and these so called new card changes for Foxtel/Austar have only stopped the amateurs because I have actually seen a working pirated card with all channels and we won't forget about card sharing thats still going.
About DVD'S, the new price should not be more than $15 for current movies and about $10 for the rest.
How do you justify music CD prices?? piss off they're joking aren't they?.
Phil

I'm not quite sure whether they intend to go ahead with this idea , but it was strongly rumoured that disposable DVD's will hit the US in the near future.

This involves Video stores renting you a DVD movie that is sealed in an air tight plastic bag. From the time you open the bag and air makes contact with it , it slowly starts deteriorating , and is only watchable for a 24 hour period.

Problems such as scratched discs and even returning them are eliminated. It's a very interesting concept.

Reminds me of the old inspector gadget cartoons..."This message will self destruct in 10 seconds" ...Our movies are now being treated like spy messages. What's next? A DVD player that only plays "virtual disks"? I wonder if they would let us pay w/virtual money that deteriorates 24 hours after they recieve it! Pleeeease,a scratch is a scratch. There's no way to avoid it.Maybe that video store should think about investing in one of those buffer machines that make a DVD like new, instead of giving the paying customer a "what for".Bad for bussiness as far as I'm concerned.Get w/the program media centers!!!
