optus b3 ubi - AUS-CITY Message Forums

The ubi frequencies at 12613 H and 12640 H have a signal strength of 81% but their signal quality is only 52%!! They go all crappy every few minutes, especially MAD TV, which is what i usually watch. I'm in Adelaide, have a 90cm dish, and the other transponders on the optus b3 are 82% strength, and 98% signal! Whats wrong! Or are these channels just crappy quality. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/default/frown.gif" /> Any suggestions/information?

its not ur signal its them with there uplink signal should be fixed soon <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" />

How did you manage 89% signal! or do you you a larger dish? I do have a bloody telstra mobile antenna 20 metres from here, so it could be retarding my signal <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/default/frown.gif" /> No,,,,,,, 99% its UBI's problem, I have the same. I doubt it should be any problems..your signal 81 has nothing to do with freezing that happens on MAD or at the same time ERT for that matter..If it was up to you other channels would look crappy like pink, or bktv...but it doesnt does it? Its gotta do with the uplink problems for those certain channels such as ERT n MAD at the same time... I am not sure how I got 89! I just aligned it, I meant moved it a bit left and few degrees up from pas8 and I got the signal like it is..I am not sure whats the size of the dish maybe 65cm??? as it is nothing flashy (was ex TARBS customer). I honestly think your 81% signal should still be OK for you to watch channels (from your end)

haha Phil, I thought something was wrong about my post <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" /> Hope UBI fixes the problem soon. I noticed I used strength/signal instead of signal strength/quality, thats my mistake. I get 81% signal strength and 55% quality for UBI frequencies (82%/98% for the other transponders). What quality % do other people get for UBI transponders? After all that's the important part, at how well the channel is recreated on your TV <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> [ 25. Hi maggas, in Western Sydney where I live, Signal Strength/Quality respectively 80%/60% @65cm Dish...

Adelaide, I get signal 89% lowest quality %94 highest %98 on UBI, on Globecast I get about 89%/84% something like that

Is your LNB in the correct position? because if its in the same position as pas 8 its wrong.

I'm assuming pas8 is the satellite tarbs was on, but I never had tarbs so no <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" /> From what I gather, as the vertical polarised transponders give me an almost perfect quality % and the horizontal polarised ones (ie UBI) do not, I need to change the elevation on my satellite. (Yr 12 Physics came in handy! yay <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/default/wink.gif" /> ) I think my arguement makes sense <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> , what do you guys think? Sorry about the confusion, I was tired when I wrote it and well I didnt know what I was saying. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> Basically from what I gather, as the vertival polarised channels are perfect and the horizontal polarised ones are not, the azmirth of my dish is fine but the elevation of my dish must be slightly off. - Does this make logical sense? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" /> BTW whos this dhead asfasfasfas <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/default/shocked.gif" />

yeah elevation should be I think a bit higher than 45 lover than 50 degrees..UBI sends a stronger signal and from what I heard then you ll get a better quality (those channels on horizontal pol), those on vertical have a bit weaker signal and hence less of a quality level you ll get on your box. cheers

Finally cooled down enuf for me to go on the roof, and after 14 failed attempts (and noone inside to help me), I finally got a better quality for the horizontal polarised (ubi) transponders. I got signal at 83% and quality at 66% (which is better than the original 52% quality i had), and the ver pol tps are still 82%/98%. Hence my theory was supported <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> I do not think the UBI channels r better quality than the others, as night_flight suggests. dnt know bout adelaide but for me in sydney with my 90cm dish the UBI transponders seem to be strounger and hold out alot longer in the rain then the weaker globecast transponders when raining they cut out the signal i get for these channels on B3 are Globecast 12525 and 12658 V 30000 Signal 85% Quality 65% UBI 12614,12640,12674 and 12701 H 22500 Signal 85% Quality 80% BTW im using a moteck so signal may seem abit lower then normal cause its skewed for other sats aswell <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> [ 26. Maybe you need to slightly alter your satellite's azmirth, as opposed to the elevation that i needed to alter.

Oh sorry didn't see your edited post... Also Sydney's geographic position, compared to Adelaide's, would give you better horizontal tps if you think about it, as the horizontal pol waves would be more curved here than in Sydney, if you know what I mean. I get 98% quality for Globecast compared to 66% quality for UBI (both about 82% signal) [sorry for being repetative] so I disagree.
