just got an email from them about there channel and also it may remain as a FTA channel

BULLETIN HOLIDAYS IN GREECE CHANNEL

Holidays in Greece Channel is the first tourist satellite TV channel with approved licence from the National Board of Radio & TV. It aims at becoming a powerful means of promoting greek tourism which along with shipping is one of the strongest "industries" of Greece.

Holidays in Greece Channel has been broadcasting since April 2004 via the european satellites Hot Bird 13o (12.188 GHz - V - 27.5 - 3/4) & Hellas Sat 39o (12.524 GHz - V - 27.500 - 3/4) and no subscription is needed. This way, people from all over Greece, Europe, N. Africa and S. Asia get to know our product in the most modern and efficient way, satellite TV. From 1st November the channel is also transmitted by satellites Optus B3 and Telstar 10, covering the areas of Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan.

Signal is broadcasted via the most modern network of optical fibres offering the unique possibility of switching the programme's language from your remote control from greek to english and vice versa; the choices of german and italian will be added in the near future.

Part of the channel's programme is also broadcasted from various local TV channels all around Crete, Messinia, Korinthos, Rhodes, Kefallonia, Serres, Drama, Kalimnos, Syros etc. Holidays in Greece Channel is also included in local cable networks in Skiathos, Skopelos, Ios, Fthiotida, Arahova which increases the number of viewers within the country's boundaries.

The promotion of each area or company takes place through the channel's programme or/and through advertisements and fillers. Programmes from all over Greece, documentaries, presentations, programmes for food and nightlife, special editions for spas, ski centers, caves, aqua habitats, golf, wines, cruises, sailing, marinas, traditional villages, monasteries, extensive presentations of tourist companies, fashion, tourist news from all over the country will be some of the channel's everyday programmes, broadcasting on air from autumn 2004.

Finally the greek manners and customs will be stressed as they compose the country's cultural treasure.

[ 09. It reads Optus B3. Doesn't mention UBI. This is only my own opinion.
Posted By: LAZER Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Fri 10 Dec 2004 08:11:AM

It seems HIG is gone from UBI.
Posted By: Satfreak Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Sun 12 Dec 2004 08:10:AM
FYI all..

From what I have heard the content provider has given permission to UBI to broadcast, sell and encrypt it,,etc..

But it was considered a bit of a joke in greece cause UBI are so desperate to build a package and MB has pissed of so many people in Greece - UNITEL and the rest, that this channel said have it for FREE... and the internal comments back in greece was we know of these guys are TARBS2 and we dont know how long our channel will be up so what the heck....

But I liked the fact that it was for FREE for MB>>> So yes if UBI lasts then this channel will be around... but people should consider that WMI are working to build a greek package and they have got people working on the ground for WMI and these people have been burnt by MB so they are working twice as hard to get WMI doing a greek platform...
Posted By: LAZER Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Sun 12 Dec 2004 03:21:PM
when will the greek package start with WMI as i am interested in getting my channels back

UBI seem to be moving slow in the greek channel part
Posted By: Satfreak Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Sun 12 Dec 2004 04:39:PM
Firstly WMI own global rights to Antenna, which I am advised is like PINK + for the Serbs..

I am advised that it will be feb before WMI get a package together for Greeks.. they are keen on Arabics first (cause owners are lebs) then they will do Greeks then Italians..

Cheers
Posted By: night_flight Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Mon 13 Dec 2004 03:24:AM
so hang on i am a bit confused here who is bringign what? now TV+ is as I know bringing serb channels BN, Pink n BK..OK..SO WMI will be for Italos, Greeks, n Arabs is this right? So they ll be completely different companies with different monthly subscription on PAS8...? I wonder why cant they just merge together to win over more customers!!!???
Posted By: whome Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Mon 13 Dec 2004 03:31:AM

Posted By: night_flight Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Mon 13 Dec 2004 03:38:AM
hahahah well looks like WMI have agreed to get together Italos n Greeks... The only thing why I said "why dont the merge all together on PAS8?" is that I d like to see some italian channles together with serbs..now that looks like it wont happen as UBI wont get em and TV+ well doesnt look promising either...ah well at least I ll get the greeks with UBI
Posted By: Satfreak Re: Holidays In Greece Channel here to stay - Mon 13 Dec 2004 03:48:AM
night flight just sit back and wait...

you wishes will come true,. I am advised that there is already discussions regarding some future english channels and all PAS8 users are using Irdeto so its very simple to do stuff together...

Dan 04

I wont take offence to what you said..

I did say BN is comming to PAS8 it came but it took a few more weeks than it should have not my fault i rely on others for infomation.

I said last week that something was going to happen that would hurt UBI, it has already happened but is not public knowledge so I am unable to disclose it to the public as only a few people currently know... and those that are in the know are readers not contributers to this list so I stay silent...

There is news pending on a number of content fronts across multiple packages but since its not public I cannot say it YET... but its comming and when it does I will remind the forum..

I think dan you work for UBI and cant hack somebody supporting another genuine compeditor..

I am on this forum supporting genuine companies trying to make a buck doing it the honest way.. some of the companies I am loyal to include - Panamsat, Globecast, WMI, TV+, Horizon, MYTV+, ABS-CBN etc.. and a very long list further...

I get a lot of infomation and it can generally be relied on as its got over lunches, beers, coffies etc

I know where the line is in the sand from a disclosure prospective and as such I cannot always tell you the facts.. but all will come clear in the near future..

Satfreak writes some entertainting peices.

Time will tell if he is right.

As for all those people with wish lists, reminds me of the old days with my Amiga computer. So many developers, telling us this and that coming out, we called it vapour ware.Maybe we should place a "name" for these "would be channels"

mixo
