As some of you have noticed UBI's Turkish package has been encrypted as of this morning.
Now all you naughty boys out there using or thinking of buying pirated boxes out there think twice before buying those expensive boxes because you will look stupid when you invest over a $1000 and all you will have is a black screen.
Phil

Yes I have spoken to 2 families that have the modded boxes their boxes are still working on the turkish channels.
Posted By: LAZER Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Sun 21 Nov 2004 01:35:AM
still FTA on Telstar 10
Posted By: ShaRp Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Sun 21 Nov 2004 04:23:AM
so are moded boxes working or not at the moment???
Posted By: LAZER Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Sun 21 Nov 2004 03:07:PM
they are working for the moment
Posted By: Engineer Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Mon 22 Nov 2004 04:35:PM
Well I hope UBI do something about these moded boxes as they will eventually hurt all if the numbers increase. The public need to realise that there is a price for any service and if they want UBI to continue to provide and improve this service (which we now take for granted) then they need to pay for it like anything else.

Is there any news on the new UBI boxes as I get a different message everytime I call them. The latest I have been told is 4 weeks.
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Mon 22 Nov 2004 05:03:PM
Yes I know I have been told the same. I will find out more in the next day or so.
Phil
Posted By: masters Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Mon 22 Nov 2004 05:37:PM
When i enter all the right frequencies to be able to watch the UBI preview i only get to see channel 1 ESC Arabic, channel 23 ATV Turkish and channel 34 BN Serbian? No Mad Tv or anything else. They come up as channel unavailable or not autorised. Any clue on what the problem might be?
Posted By: Darth Vader Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Mon 22 Nov 2004 06:12:PM
Masters, and everyone else with the same question.

Yes, you will get that message and a whole lot more of different flavours of the same, even up to the point where everything will lock up if you keep fiddling with the installation settings of the STB3100 STU (old TARBS box).

Now the reason is that UBI are (deliberately or otherwise) not sending all the info the box needs to receive.
The more times you reload the further you are corrupting your authorisation list that eventually you'll be left with an empty list and therefore not be able to watch any channels at all.
There is no use repetitively forcing a reload as UBI ain't sending squat! (yet)
If you are unable to wait, buy a free to air box, otherwise...well I recon about Feb-Mar 2005

Anyone know how to re enable the IRD. Family friend of ours played around with the settings and now it is disabled. UBI Technical support was not able to help.
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Tue 23 Nov 2004 04:02:PM
Yes thats a mistake, some have had pictures for a while with these tarbs boxes, they now decide to play with them, and now they have NOTHING!!!
Remember the tarbs boxes are not designed to run under FTA.
Posted By: Engineer Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Tue 23 Nov 2004 04:09:PM
I suppose this is the result of too many people finding out the pin number giving them access to sensitive areas.
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Tue 23 Nov 2004 04:23:PM
yes I have warned before, If you have pictures don't stuff around with them.

IRD disabled but it has been sorted out. It was a matter of talking to the right person at UBI. It took a while but we got there. Thanks anyway.

Engineer, That's why I asked. IRD disabled is reversable
Posted By: Engineer Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Wed 24 Nov 2004 04:02:PM
Thanks Vlad, but the first Technical staff I spoke to tried very hard to convince me that the receiver was damaged. I know that wasn't the case so I just waited 10 minutes and called back to talk to someone else who obviously new what to do.

Hahaha,

Sounds like microsoft tech support

Yeah, I also get so frustrated with UBI's tech staff that I feel like going up to them in a Nick Burns style..."Move!" and just fix it myself!

...and it's so true...you pay peanuts, you get monkeys
Posted By: Liski Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 02:16:AM
It's funny most people are still changing the frequency hoping to have the Turkish channels free.

IRD Disabled can be fixed.

PNA can be fixed.

Alot of customers are not following the instructions from UBI. The best way to fix PNA is to leave the IRD on standby for 1hr and customers still call back after 30mins saying its PNA.

Lose Signal Rain In The Area (NSRIA) is mostly only displayed if they have the incorrect settings in Transponder Settings or have not correctly aligned the dish and receiving very low signal level and quality.

[ 25. Lazer,

Laest I know is negotiations are continuing between UBI and TGRT. TGRT is urging the Turkish public to put pressure on UBI.

Liski....
Sounds like you’re a UBI techo.

Um, NSRIA could also be because the transponder freq's cannot be saved in a modified box where the 24C64 is write protected. You can leave the box on standby all you want, won't make a difference

However, you guys seem to be totally ignorant about the real problem or do you purposely play dum?

Folk are pulling their hair out because UBI is sending week half transponder signals and when people do forced updates, the PDT's, SDT's…, corrupt their channel admin section of their firmware. This is only on the STB3100.

The STB3110 hasn't got that problem cause (fortunately for them) it doesn't accept UBI's update packets

Just to add… don’t think people are stupid. They follow what the forum says to the letter. Even pay installers to move their dish to B3 only for the installers to tell them to leave their dish on PAS 8 if they own a STB3100 ‘cause it just won’t work on UBI.

I suggest you get someone to fix this as people are getting sick of UBI stuffing them around and have moved their dishes back to PAS 8.

This is all due to the incompetency of the UBI technicians.

[ 26. To my knowledge a unmodified STB3100 will work on UBI. People with a 3100 or 3110 should not do a Forced Remote Update only Mapping Channels.

I never said or think people are stupid.

I'm only here trying to help with correct information.

[ 26. vlad
I don't know where you get you info from but I have connected over 30 to UBI using the older box and in every case I moved the dish first, set the frequecies, and checked that the box time date were correct and make sure it saved the settings, then I told the customer to ring UBI for connection for the Turkish package, nobody has rang me back? why they are watching UBI.
Again like most have said these boxes are not a FTA box and they don't behave correctly in that mode.
fred
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 04:54:PM
So what Fred is doing by the look at it is
1/move the dish
2/change the freq
3/Make sure it has saved correctly
4/collect your $$$
5/leave the house with the TV showing "NOT AUTHORISED"
6/let them do the UBI talking to get connected over the phone.

that sound like in and out.
Posted By: Darth Vader Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 04:54:PM
Fred,

Long story but in essence UBI isn’t sending one part of the channel admin signal down to the boxes. Now that’s fine if you don’t need to update the channel admin but if you have received in the past a corrupt download there is no way of repopulating the STB’s. This is why many people can only get ESC. As channel one is in the P1000 override.
My recommendation is please don’t comment on something you don’t understand as it works to the determent of people who are trying to do root cause analis.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 05:29:PM
I just collect my money mate and go, Just to check I just rang 3 of the customers that I moved their dishes weeks ago and the three have there services working, and I have not had anyone other ring me complaining that the box isn't working So what does all this mean the other 27 are watching TV.
I just move the dish!, Do the Box, leave them with a blank screen and GO.
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 05:36:PM
VLad
I've never had trouble with any of the early boxes (3100) But I had one that was a PIG!!! and behaved eratically so I took the lid off and found it had a MODDED chip in it.
Interesting!
Posted By: Darth Vader Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 05:56:PM
Phil,
Yep, you'll also find there has been a track cut off,...bla, bla.

What pisses me off is that I’ve literally spent days identifying what the cause of the screw up is. I have come across many box’s and have narrowed the symptoms down and I am positive I have found the root cause.

You see, at around 2:00AM one morning, while UBI was shifting programs from transponder to transponder and not all channels were populated, I did a reload on my box and to my delight it had successfully downloaded the full (uncorrupted) update and the PNA messages were gone. When I went into the Channel Authorisation screen I saw the list was fully populated.
So two days later, when all the channels were set in their new “homes” I did a reload and…you guessed it, it downloaded a corrupt batch and all my channels were gone! Back into the Channel Authorisation screen and I found I lost all my channels. Only a hand full of P’s.

Now if you have an old TARBS box and just change the transponder freq and don’t do a channel update, Your channel auth is in tact so you can view, what Mr Boulos promised, their free months worth!
For us poor folk that actually did the forced update at the wrong time…well suck eggs

What I am desperately trying to explain to UBI is that if they want people to rejoin, strengthen the signal and allow people who paid $70 for their dish to be moved, to be able to unload TARBS channel’s and reload UBI.
At the moment they are aggravating the folk.

[ 26. The signal strenth isn't the Problem, Its actually stronger than globecast, remember Its a HP Beam cut in half.
Hang will do a check now!!
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 06:14:PM
Globe cast and All the UBI transponders are that close to each other its not funny.
looking at GlobeCast I just found another channel
"KURDSAT"
Phil
Posted By: Darth Vader Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 06:17:PM
Phil,
For normal broadcast it doesn't oppose a problem. But remember that for a firmware download, it won't suffice as there is no CRC checking. One bad bit and you could loose the lot!
Posted By: LAZER Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 06:24:PM
yes the UBI signals are alot strounger then the globecast signals when it rains hard here the only channels that stay alive and have picture are the UBI channels the globecast channels die out with heavy rain but ubi ones need hail stones for the signal to cut out
Posted By: Darth Vader Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 06:50:PM
Unfortunately, the Signal Strength is not the issue. Half the time UBI doesn’t even send down the update and the other half is that the update sent down is corrupt!

My suggestion is... Before they start business is to sort this out ASAP. Even if it means set up a transponder as the “home”, in the interim, to only supply clean, strong and UNCORRUPTED updates to the STB’s.

But if they don’t want to loose any more potential customers… They have to do it NOW!!!

yeh i got a corrupted version on my box only load one channel now the rest are unauthorised
oh well wont need it till i subscribe to UBI

If you F/W is corrupted the only way to fix it will be via the serial interface
Use to work well for the Pace days, done in dos.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 07:21:PM
Maybe your box is stuffed and you need to get it look at.
One of my mates plugged the interface into the serial port he played and he stuffed the box, I hope you have not done the same.
Posted By: LAZER Re: Turkish Channels Encrypted - Fri 26 Nov 2004 07:26:PM
i never paid for the box so i dnt care about it was just saying that it only shows one channel when i do a scan on it but works for any other channels which are FTA eg. the pas8 channels work fine on it
