Actually the guy has a point. Most channels cost UBI/Tarbs nothing and, as far as I remember, Tarbs wasn't paying the sat fees either hence they pocketed all the money. Who's to say that now the same won't happen?

UBI do have to pay for the channels here plus the uplink costs.
Posted By: Boring Re: kingtut - Fri 18 Feb 2005 04:13:PM
How do people think channels arrive here ? Via Qantas or something. NOTHING is for free.

Mind you foxtel and Austar are over 200 Million in the red has anyone pulled their transponders.
See Foxtels Mr Murdoch was watching his computers where ethnic people were disconnecting by the droves from Foxtel mainly because TARBS was picking them up with their new English package of the Movie Channels and the rest, and as you know most cant even afford one pay tv provider and definitely won't have two. Dirty business
A little note. Go to the video shot and hire the DVD OUTFOXED and see what a good man Murdoch is. Yes this DVD was not allowed to be advertised or even talked about on ANY
of Murdoch papers or other interest.
Talk about one man that wants to control the world with his bias SHIT!

I tought the same thing as you Nick but got my lesson when I throw the questions & comments about freebees FTAs. There are major costs/issues to transmit overseas channels here as explained earlier..

Yeah, yeah, and we always come to the same conclusion (at least I do). Internet will free us from all the foxes and similar animals.

I believe out of the 25 million owed to pas, 20mil was paid with 5 to go....

Only if the owners of TARBS didn't steal all the profits DAM!

Ironic as it sounds the owners lost more like a couple of hundred million.

DAM THIEF'S!

[ 18. One sat channel (compressed), of mediocre quality is 4.5Mb/sec. and your ADSL is, at best 1Mbit/sec. I doubt it’ll come any time soon

Vlad...
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: kingtut - Fri 18 Feb 2005 05:15:PM
Yes thats why i said 4.5 mil, why in the F..k would you want to pull the plug when your 75% of the payment was only paid weeks before pulling the plug.
It makes no sence, It makes Murdoch and Fuc.tel happy but at the end of the day Panamsat are the BIG LOSERS!!! who is hiring there spare transponders that were used by TARBS now dickheads.
Posted By: fsking Re: kingtut - Fri 18 Feb 2005 05:16:PM
Vlad most have 1.5Mbit/s upgraded system...But as you said, there is nothing available to reach the speed enough to compete with the satellite yet...

DSLAMs are already near you, capable of 8 Mbps. And Phil mentioned before, Energy Australia has run a successful trial of 200 Mbps BPL (Broadband over Power Lines).

Yes and I bet that scares arrogant Telstra, this will be real competition for them, but as long as its not expensive it won't be long before you have EnergexNet but for the start the speed will be limited the word is saying

i heard that foxtel had plans of broadcasting over the net in 2007.

btw there are already minor applications of this system in Canberra.

like this...

http://www.transact.com.au/forhome/transtv.asp

[ 18. It still hasnt happened.

There are still lots of parts of Australia that cannot even get ADSL , I have only had it for 6 months and I am probably only 60 kms from Melbourne.

...but then you have to account for all the links up to your destination are capable of delivering the bandwidth (QoS). Most times you may have a 1.5Mbps to your provider and they only have a 2Mbps link to the web and anywhere up to 1000 customers
