I'd like to find out what UBI's strategy is against the pirate boxes that is readily available in the market. Unfortunately I am in a losing battle against people who have a choice to pay $60 dollars a month on top of the $250 price tag for a UBI box against a $450 one off fee for a pirate service. If UBI follow strategy, see no evil hear no evil then everyone will suffer as it will eventually hit UBI's bottom line meaning that everyone will lose out. <br /><br />Liski, may be you can provide some light in to this debate.

At the end the people who bought and are selling the pirate will loose .. Just wait and see is all I can say

Piracy for TARBS was bad but I wonder where these fools are getting their boxes from now.<br />I hope UBI is keeping a good records of what box goes where.
Posted By: Big Chief Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 03:53:PM
They'll always be piracy irrelvant of pricing as people purchasing the pirate service see it as a off payment.
Posted By: Chile Sat Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 03:54:PM
Now these Pirate Boxes are offering for $280 with all the channels ready and free. How they did that? plus somebody tell me that in Cabramatta NSW a few chinese or vietnamese shops they do it for $150 on the spot. They said that a chip needs to be change, a special chip is the golden key for crack the box. it's true or not Who knows.

Yes , Tarbs boxes are chipped and now seems they are appearing cheaper than ever.<br /><br />I would put this down to the fact that when Tarbs went **** up , people gave away/threw out/sold their Tarbs boxes regardless of whether they owned them or not.<br /><br />This has led to a large amount of them being available and has provided an opportunity for those with the technical know how to make some fast dollars.<br /><br />Expect to see plenty more of them about.
Posted By: Liski Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 04:49:PM
I'm sure there will be plenty about but will they work in the near future? Thats the big question.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 04:51:PM
plus there are still many boxes at old tarbs subscribers homes. those ppl are getting their boxes chipped for around $200.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 04:58:PM
yes liski thats the question but ppl don't spend much to get the boxes chipped. it cost only two or three months subscribtion fee. even if they don't work after six months they will save quite a lot of money.
Posted By: Boring Re: Pirate Boxes - Mon 06 Jun 2005 05:29:PM
Why wouldnt they work in the near future ? TARBS had no counter measure to stop them , I cant see UBI being any different.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: Pirate Boxes - Tue 07 Jun 2005 07:58:AM
good point, boring.

Liski are you hinting that UBI will change to a new encryption method with new boxes? If so what then happens to all those loyal customers who have bought boxes and are subscribed to UBI. Will UBI refund the cost of the boxes or provide new boxes at no cost or will these people be out of pocket between $200 and $300 dollars the current cost of the box and the activation fee and then a further cost for another box? This will result in a lot of very unhappy subscribed customers if UBI does not handle this situation tactfully. Also if UBI are planning to do this then if they let it be known what the time frame is then this will knock all the box chippers out of business <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/default/frown.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/default/frown.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/default/shocked.gif" />

From what I have heard there are people out there who have been watching for the last six months without any interruption. Also the hits from UBI don't seem to have much of an affect on the STB3110 model receivers.
Posted By: Dark Lord Re: Pirate Boxes - Fri 10 Jun 2005 03:55:PM
Just out of curiousity which ones where the 3110 the big ones or the small ones... ?? Are there service manuals for these boxes online somewhere?<br />My Uncles box seems to have developed a power Supply failure...
Posted By: ShaRp Re: Pirate Boxes - Fri 10 Jun 2005 04:34:PM
3110 is the small one.<br /><br />not about 3110 but there is little info about 3100 here.<br /><br />http://www.mentor.com.tw/stb3100.htm

Cheers.. He has the 3110 .... I reckon I might give up on it and get him to get a new one once he signs up with UBI again..

Update for all. There was a recent hit and from what I hear a lot of receivers including the 3110 lost all channels. May be UBI is reading this forum....<br /> <br /> <small>[ 18. June 2005, 12:02 AM: Message edited by: Engineer ]</small>
