What I mean is that Cyprus Sat is to be a FTA channel just like ERT. Cyprus Sat is a state run channel and according to the Cyprus government it is to be FTA for the whole community to enjoy.
The just mentioned on the Cyprus Sat news bulletin that Cyprus Sat is to be FTA in Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It has been FTA all over Europe for quite a while now.
yes, TRT is also FTA but part of UBI. This is probably the same when the greek package is encrypted Cyprus SAT will remain FTA.
So you reckon that Cyprus Sat is part of the UBI package?
Watching cyprus sat, but i think they made a big boo-boo, telling as that TARBS is distributing the signal to australia and new zealand!!!

Anyone know whats this all about???

mixo

P.s the good news is that the bloke said its going to be FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes Cyprus will be part of UBI package, but will be left FTA

quote:
Originally posted by mixo:
Watching cyprus sat, but i think they made a big boo-boo, telling as that TARBS is distributing the signal to australia and new zealand!!!

Anyone know whats this all about???

mixo

P.s the good news is that the bloke said its going to be FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As TRT, Kurdistan TV and SCTV on the UBI Mux are FTA Cyprus Sat will be FTA also most likely

Cyprus Sat RIK has most likely Hired TARBS Europe to Distribute there Signal thru Telstar 10 and Optus B3 FTA for all to enjoy instead of using the usual means as most use Globecast

[ 11. September 2005, 08:39 AM: Message edited by: LAZERSAT ]
And I bet Boulos has undercut Globecast out of the deal and making money out of it.
Did Some idiot on this forum say weeks ago why does UBI need its own teleports?, Its just shows you people sometimes on this forum just plainly don't think.
Jaremt you not calling Lord Phill an idiot????

Now you will get the forum firing!!!!!

I think the flame is lit and the petrol has just been poured!!!!!

And yes you are right you dont need your own teleports to do the job till you build your own.

Also its nearly the start of the greek Tv season, wouldnt it be nice for ubi to get the greek channels now before the season starts in october.

mixo
Me a Idiot I don't thing so.
I reported months ago that it would be easy for Boulos to use these new Teleports to generate a income. Well put it this way if you owned them what would you do.?
Tarbs Europe has signed the contract with Cyprus Sat RIK to distribute the channel FTA all over the world. It would of been preferable for them to go through Globecast though as UBI is a dedicated pay service.

Oh well, can't have everything. Sure is great to have this channel no matter what the means.
its FTA so who cares who is Distributing it as long as we have it FTA

[ 11. September 2005, 11:29 AM: Message edited by: LAZERSAT ]
Now I wonder how much Mr mike is making out of this deal
You seem to forget Phil that it is uplinked from Cyprus to Hellas Sat and distributed to the whole of Europe. From there it is distributed to the rest of the world through Tarbs Europe.

This is until Hellas Sat puts an Australian Beam in which case they will be able to distribute it at a fraction of the cost. Hellas Sat is a joint consortium between the Greek and Cyprus governments. This was all discussed at the conferance between an Australian delegation and The Cyprus government.
with hellasat at 39 degrees east who in Australia would be able to access it with such a low look angle your dish would be looking into the ground??
My concern for it being distributed through UBI is that if anything should happen to UBI asit did to TARBS Australia, then we wll lose the channel. Pay tv services have a long history of problems in this country.

I don't need to remind you that Cyprus Sat was broadcasting through Tarbs as a test card and then all of a sudden Tarbs went under and we lost it. Atleast Globecast is a more stable carrier.
Cyprus Sat was off Tarbs a few months before Tarbs closed
All I am saying is that the Cyprus government will be looking at all options. Hellas Sat was also mentioned.

For such a tiny country, they wish to support the Cypriot population all over the world but they are interested at doing this at a cheap price.

I wonder why Globecast was overlooked as this is where ERT is carried?
I Think TARBS Europe was a Cheaper option I know Globecast charge alot for doing this kind of stuff
I am not sure. Hope they did all their homework.
I'm sure they did.
Personally I don't care how much he makes so long as he brings us the Greek channels and sticks to the reasonable price he has know.

I for one have to give him full credit because he was the first person that had the courage to bring all those Ethnic channels so good luck to him, i wish Ubi all the best...

Phil and liski thank you for the information you give us through aus-city
Good to see another new FTA channel. Another I can actually list without fear of it encrypting.
Few UBI transponder down !
Lazer, can you please confirm..
Yay for a Cypriot channel but ive just lost picture and Mad seems to have lost signal....
yes few of them are gone..
Cyprus Sat picture back on. No signal for Mad.
UBI just having a bit of a hitch. Should be back soon.
Cyprus Sat picture off at the moment. Expected a few problems at this early stage. Anyone still got Cyprus Sat picture?
Does anybody know why Mad has lost signal along with a few other channels, and what happening with Cyprus Sat... at the bottom of the screen is written "New Channel coming soon".
Cyprus Sat is working now, anybody know why its been losing picture at certain times? Are UBI testing the channel or something?
They just started Broadcasting it Yesterday it is to be expected this early

its back on now

the Transponder problem should be fixed soon
Cyprus Sat is being distributed by Tarbs Europe on behalf of The Cyprus government. This channel will remain permanently FTA.

There may be some teething problems at this early stage as the channel is not suppose to be on air until May 2006.
Yes hasent even been on for 24 hours yet
I really like this channel.Nice Tradetional Mediteranian music which is you can`t get it any where.
Yes i like Cyprus Sat on the Weekend's play music thru out the whole day
I feel like having nice Greek salad and a few glasess of Raki ,when I listen to this Mediterranien music.
And have a meze with Zivania.
I think I praised ubi 2 soon must have jinxed them. What happened to all the channels? any one has any information??
Anthea,

They just have technical problems at this stage.
Globecast have the same problem as they have lost channels too. They will probably sought it out soon.

Hope you Turkish guys get to see your game.
Major solar flare last week.. could be problems affecting satellite reception. Fingers crossed that no satellites get zapped.
It said that it was due to solar flare on nthe Globecast channels. I was not sure if this was accurate.

Is there a chance that solar flare can destroy satellites?
If they do they are Trucked!!
****ed
Hehehe

Yes Cyprus Sat is looking good !!!
i could watch this channel all day long and not get bored.
Makes me feel so homesick. Wish I was over there for summer and to see family and friends.
yeh, nothing can beat the feeling of being in Cyprus.
Hopefully they broadcast a few Cypriot soccer games as well.
i saw some soccer on early in the morning today was about 4am

Do you think that the Radio Stations like Proto and Trito will come on also??
yeh it's a shame Anorthosis lost to rangers.
Who was playing? I like watching teams like Apoel, Anorthosis, Omonia and Appollonas.

I have not heard anything about Proto and Trito as yet as the most important thing was just to get RIK. I hope that the radio stations come on but i am not so confident. I will find out though during the week when I speak to my contacts in Cyprus.
Lazer,

was Proto and Trito on last time RIK was on air a couple of years ago.
not sure who was playing but it was soccer was half asleep LOL had a LTV Logo on the right bottom corner
Thats sounds promising lol. LTV have all the rights to the Cyprus first division. We might see a game or two. I think LTV is a pay service in Cyprus but is also a subsiduary of RIK.
Anorthosis lost to Rangers(Switzerland i think)

quote:
Originally posted by paphos74:
Lazer,

was Proto and Trito on last time RIK was on air a couple of years ago.

I don't recall the radio stations being on only Cyprus Sat was on Tarbs before

But Tarbs Europe is getting the signal from Hellas Sat were the 3 Radio Stations are on there also along with Cyprus Sat so I would of thought they may be bringing that in aswell soon perhaps?
You know Lazer i think you might be on to someting lol. I might try a re-scan and see what comes up.

In any case, I will find out about Proto and Trito. It probably is just as easy for them to broadcast the radio stations as well. This would be lovely.
Yes it would be lovely, keep us informed of what you find out paphos74.
i occasionally listen to these radio stations on the internet but it would be better through satellite.
I just did a re-scan and there were no radio stations. But I will ask and I will let you all know what I find out.

I am also wanting to find out if Cyprus Sat is just beeing tested and will go off air temporarily and then be brought back permanently.
It sure as hell came pretty quick after the press release. I was expecting it in about 2 months time.
I wonder if it costs them more to broadcast radio stations.

Georgeflazarou,

It was a great performance from Anorthosis in the champions league despite losing to Rangers. Are you an Anorthosis fan?
Yes, my parents are from Rizokarpaso and i support Anorthosis.. i was very pleased that they made it that far.
lol, I support Apep who have been relegated to the second division. I also like Apoel.
a lot of my relatives support Omonia, and i was teased when i was over there on holiday.."You should support Omonia better than Anorthosis" etc...
Ah, great times..
Stick to Anorthosis lol, being from Rizokarpazo and all. Omonia is the eternal enemy. Like I said, I support Apoel after all.

And Apep might win a championship in the second division.
Yes lol, we will see what happens
Anorthosis drew with Apep yesterday, 1-1
Anorthosis is a strong side. They will be difficult to beat.

Their victory over Tranzonspor was a highlight that will never be forgotten in Cypriot footballing history. I think Anorthosis had the whole of Cyprus behind them when they beat.
Wow, Apep drew with Anorthosis! What a result.
Yes that was some highlight for Cypriot footballing.
I think that Apep your referring to is not Apep Paphos. I think it's from an other town. Apep Paphos got relegated into the second division.
Yep. But Apop amalgamated with Evagoras Paphos and re-badged themselves as APEP Paphos.
Thats a bit confusing because it ued to be APOP Paphos and APEP Kyperounda,
but now u have APEP Pahos and APEP Kyperounda.

Well i learnt something new today..
i read on a ebpage that it is AEP Paphos FC
Thats right. It is a bit confusing. But when Apop Paphos joined with Evagoras Paphos they became known as APEP Paphos. Now we have APEP Kyperounda which are playing in the first division and APEP Paphos playing inthe second division. Anorthosis drew 1-1 with APEP Kyperounda.
AEP Paphos is Athletiki Enosis Paphou as it is an amalgamation of APOP and Evagoras. It is also known as APEP Paphos.
yeh i understand now, thanks.
It's fairly confusing lol. But in any case APEP Paphos is a lowly rated team which I still love no matter how many games they lose.
yeh, support whichever team you like, no one's judging you.. lol
Slightly of topic I think.
When i was last in cyprus i went to a soccer match.I could not stop laughing for the whole match. When the soccer got boaring the crowd kept me entertained!

Hopefully when i get back there during xmas i will be able to attend another of their games!

mixo

Haa I must have over a hundred members that live within 10 square miles from my place that have joined the forum in the last 6 months. some must be talking to others thats all i can say.
Technical problems with cyprus Sat at the moment. Does anyone Know when it will be fixed.

Phil or Liski, one of you might know.
these things happen will be back on when its possible
I think there might be prolonged problems
what ?? will be back on soon
I hope so Lazer. I hope it's not like MAD TV where it had technical problems for an extensive period in time.

I hope we don't have to wait until May 2006 for it's official launch date.
read the press release for the Greek Package says it all in plain english and some in Greek also LOL

Have you noticed that alot of Ant1 personalities have moved to ALPHA
Yes I have. I thought that the female blond ( do not know her name ) is married to an ANT1 executive. I wonder why she has moved to Alpha.

Maybe this marriage will be on the rocks.
Yes LOL seems like Ant1 is losing abit from this move as Ελένη Μενεγάκη has a large following behind her she even brang most of her crew that are on the morning show from Ant1 to Alpha and also the Set on Alpha looks alot like her Set on Ant1

Alpha seems to be making some big moves on getting personalities from rival networks which make there ratings higher
I like her LOL. She is one fine personality.

Do you think there is a chance UBI might get ANT 1 aswell in the future?
Not sure will see what happens when the channels come on
Is Cyprus Sat going to be permanently FTA or is it going to encrypt? There seems to have been a lot of talk about it being FTA, but Phil reckons it will not.

A lot of people in the Cypriot community believe it will be FTA.
we will see wat happens but at the moment things are looking good 4 da greek people, yayy
Problem solved. Well done UBI.

Cyprus sat back on air.

Can someone shed some light on whether Cyprus Sat is to remain FTA? There seems to be a lot of talk about this in the Cypriot Community. Some people think it will be fta and others do not.

Liski or Phil, perhaps one of you guys can clear up this matter.
Well Cyprus Sat themselves haven't said anything about it remaining FTA all they have said is that the signal is now transmitted in Australia

We will know when the Greek Package gets encrypted

quote:
Originally posted by Evagoras Paligaridis:
Is Cyprus Sat going to be permanently FTA or is it going to encrypt? After all is Cyprus sat paying for it to come to Australia? NO!! So why should UBI have to pay for a service to get it to Australia and give it away free or better still it will be a FTA service but the people that want it in Australia have to pay the Satellite operator to send it here. It is very simple to understand. Why should UBI pay for something to give it to you for nothing? if Cyprus Sat is paying for the signal to come out here fair enough but they are not. It is very easy to understand, in simple terms bandwidth on fibre optic or bandwidth on a satellite cost money and would you give away something for nothing if it cost you money? If you were a truck driver that drove from Sydney to Brisbane someone has to pay for the cartage. Even if the goods out the back are free and because there is 1000km involved who's paying the fuel bill for those free items? It's funny this is so simple to understand and yet people still have trouble understanding it.
I'll give you another senario, it is a free service from UBI but you have to pay the satellite/fibre optic operators which are contractors and have nothing to do with UBI $10 a month just to get this one channel here per customer. This way UBI are out of it but at the end of the day the customer is still going to pay.
Yep anyway i think RIK in Cyprus have sold the rights to UBI anyway and as RIK dont pay for it to come here UBI can do as they wish with it as they are paying for everything
Phil,

people are saying and they claim that the Cyprus Government are paying for this service to reach Australia. Some people also claim that they have spoken with the Consul General of Cyprus at The Cyprus High Commission.
If UBI are paying for it the customers in Australia will be paying for it. Now this is my opinion!!.
Why hasen't RIK released anything official saying all this they should really post something on there site or a press release of something saying what there plans are as of this moment there website is useless and they never reply to emails
Well the truth will come out soon, If you have the official letter saying who is paying for it I will put it here,NOW I SAY A OFFICIAL LETTER. If you spread rumours and produce no evidence I WILL BAN THE PERSON IMMEDIATELY
it depends on the contract between RIK and UBI.

if RIK asked UBI to broadcast it FTA (like TRT did) no matter how much it cost to bring it to Australia UBI cannot encrypt it.

Liski might know the details of the contract if there is one.
I'm sick of people saying he heard if from his brothers, wifes, uncle, sisters, the bloke that works at the door. I want evidence no rumours and if you put put a official document on this forum and you edit it I will pass it to the correct authorities.
Not spreading any rumours at all. Just asking is it going to be FTA or not? I hear rumours going both ways and would just like the matter to be cleared up.

If you do not know, then I apologise but all I am doing is asking a simple question.

Tomorrow I will call The Cyprus High Commission and try to find out. If I can come up with any factual information then I will post it here.
Well you never know it might stay FTA but all the other Greek channels will be encrypted so it might be a good ploy for UBI to attract you to their satellite. But at the end of the day you still will not be able to view it with a UBI box as they are a Pay TV box only.

quote:
Originally posted by Evagoras Paligaridis:
Not spreading any rumours at all. They don't update it for long periods of time and I too never get a reply to my emails. There have also been no official press releases from the Government sites.
i wouldn't. but i wouldn't sign that contract either.
it looks like nobodys replying now Phil, because nobody has the facts lol
Thats good
I have been to lenient in the past and i have paid the price of allowing people to walk over me. Not anymore!!!!! I being fair here I will say it again please supply me a official letter and please don't doctor it because you might get a shock I want the truth and truth only then we all can discuss it.
But if a state pays a fee and profit margin to deliver and carry a particular channel to Australia, then I am sure that UBI would do this.

But if the state wants it FTA such as is the case with TRT, then it will pay necessary fees for it to be FTA, including transponder fees.
Will see what happens
Yes we will
Thank God for that!! Tomorrow I will do my own sniffing around.
That would be great Phil. We will see if we can come up with something
Nothing worst than someone spreading rumours, but I can see the point where someone has to pay for it to get here and pay for its spot on optus b3.
Public holiday in NSW today?? hummmmmmm.
Sure is

I was just on the phone to The Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Demetris Christofias, and I must say that he is most surprised at the fact that UBI have exclusive rights to Cyprus Sat. He proceeded to say that RIK TV is a " non profit organisation " and is a state run television channel that is used to inform all Cypriots worldwide of current affairs and provide cultural and entertaining programming. Since it is a non profit organisation, it is impossible for the Republic to allow corporations to use this channel for profiteering at the expence of Cypriot citizens that live overseas as the channel is funded by the Cypriot taxpayer for the benefit of all Cypriots around the world, as well as those living in Cyprus. He is furious to hear that UBI or Tarbs, as he calls it, is intending to encrypt this channel and has promised to raise this issue in Cyprus Parliament. He will also be contacting other Cypriot Community Leaders in Australia for their advice and input. Aswell as this, he will also be in contact with Tarbs concerning this matter. As far as he is aware, the contract is still on the negotiating table, and no contract has been entered into, let alone an exclusive one. The President will also be briefed on this matter as he will staunchly oppose any move for RIK TV to be an exclusive UBI subscription channel unless it is also available FTA for all expat Cypriots to enjoy.
Can you ask them who is paying for it to be sent to Australia, Also can you ask them who is paying for the spot allicated on Optus B3. So by the sound of it by what you are saying the above two are being paid for outside UBI.
I would like to make a correction. The Honourable Mr. Demetris Christofias is The Speaker of The Cyprus Parliament House.

To answer your question Phil, all fees of any contract entered into are to be to the care of The Rebublic of Cyprus and it's taxpayers. I would also like to add that there are many Cypriot politicians who are very angry with what is going on in Australia. I personally have also spoken to The Minister of Foreign Affairs and The Minister of the Interior concerning this matter. What is more important is that this anger is also bi-partisan.

I would also like to stop answering any further questions unless I can answer accurately, as I do not want to get into any trouble with any Cypriot authorities, by giving an innaccurate answer, as this link has been passed on to the ministers office, and they are now monitoring this issue. If I am able to answer accurately, then I am only too happy to be of assistance.
Now this makes very interesting reading so you're saying in writing that the cost of getting the signal via Fibre/Satellite/Optus B3 to Australia is being paid by the Republic of Cyprus and its Taxpayers. I have taken a screen shot of this just in case if something is edited.
Like I said, The Republic of Cyprus has a policy that this channel is to be FTA for the benefit of all Cypriots (Greek and Turkish as they also have programming in the Turkish language) and is to be funded by The Republic.
Well the way I look at it UBI should run It FTA but the people that live in Australia from Cyprus should pick up the tab of paying to get the channel to sent to Australia. Someone has to pay for it to get here and I don't beleive that the Taxpayers in Cyprus are funding this channel to be sent to Australia. If you have the proof put it in writing signed by someone otherwise I will put a complaint to the owners of this forum as I'm for one am sick of shit being put on this forum without concrete evidence.
The tab is to be picked up by The Republic of Cyprus as it is a state funded channel for all Cypriots in Cyprus as well as those expat Cypriots living outside of Cyprus. This is according to The Cyprus government.

You can rest assured that there will be many phone calls from Cypriot government officials to Tarbs Europe in the next few days. As I said, this link is being monitored.

I was just speaking to a government minister, and all I can say at this stage is that UBI do not have exclusive rights to Cyprus Sat. In fact, The Cyprus government has no knowledge of any contract being entered into at all. This is what is being claimed by senior government officials in Cyprus and not by myself.

This is very interesting and is contradictory to the above claims that are made by UBI that it has exclusive rights.

Obviously we can expect some interesting times in the future. The Republic of Cyprus is also being informed of this press release.

I do not wish to answer any further questions, but we can all expect an official reply or press release from Cyprus concerning this issue in the very near future.

Perhaps, UBI can prove to all that they do have exclusive rights to Cyprus Sat and put to rest these conflicting remarks from Cypriot officials.

[ 01. IF your contacting people in Cyprus now why not contact the people actually broadcasting the channel who i mean is RIK themselves??

Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, CyBC Street, Nicosia 2120,Cyprus

Ραδιοφωνικό Ιδρυμα Κύπρου, Οδός ΡΙΚ, Λευκωσία 2120, Κύπρος

Tel: +357 22862000, Fax: +357 22314050
I can see this one getting messy.
If the channel is being paid totally 100% by the people from Cyprus ( Now thats everything) well fair enough it should be FTA but if it cost UBI one cent to get it to your Australian Tv's well UBI have a right to charge you for it. We will wait and see what Phil has to say about this but just say If Globecast had it, or select TV had it its still the same. SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR GETTING THE CHANNEL TO AUSTRALIA, SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR THE POSITION ON ANY SATELLITE. And for one I cannot see Globecast or Select tv or in this case UBI absorbing the bill for this one channel otherwise I for one would remove the channel from the UBI service.
I am a bit busy at the moment as I have other things to do (storm damage) but this is the way I look at it:

If this channel is totally funded fully which includes the turn arounds uplinkings on any satellite whatsoever to our Australian shores by the people from Cyprus, well I think it should stay FTA. But on UBI's side, I wouldn't have it, why? If they are not making any money out of it, its robbing one valuable spot on a transponder which could be used by another channel which produces income for UBI. Now as said above, would Select TV or Globecast, Panglobal have it?, and run it FTA, If it incurred them costs? No way!!Like I always say and something doesn't add up here, this channel might be free in that part of the world, but its not free getting it here and if UBI are getting this channel, when its totally funded by the Cypriat tax payers and considering UBI is very short of transponder space, I would be removing this channel from their line up and let another carrier have it. Again, do we really know the truth? Is this channel being paid for 100% to our doorstep? or to get to this channel to Australia at UBI's expense. No doubt the truth will come out in the next few days or so.
This matter over channels that are FTA in other parts of the world but being charged for in this part of the world has been bought up 1000 times. Again, will have to wait to see what happens, to see what is true and what is not true.
I have sent this to UBI management.
Phil
Guess we will all know the fate of it in 2 Weeks

Well Evagoras what do you think of that Most of us know that some nationalities are as tight as a fishes arse ( you expected cyprus Sat to pay for the uplinking and downlinking to Australia), and if you don't know what a arse is its the hole between your legs. I expected that and so did others, nothing is for nothing these days all you are trying to do is make yourself look good but for me you have egg on your face now, you should have waited before starting this.
I'm waiting for Balkans channels and I can see the Greek package getting larger by the week but I cannot believe what Evagoras has said and I agree with MEATBALL, Phil, Lazer and others on this. You have not acted in a professional way, you should have waited until the outcome of this. Two things have happened here 1/ you were conned by lies, 2/ you trying to bignote yourself in front of bigger fish by saying they are reading this forum by putting pressure on UBI to run it FTA.
UBI is a company that wants to make money, why should they have to run this or any channel when it costs them heaps to bring it to this country? and all because you are too tight with your money and you don't want to part with some of it.
Liski's News forum explains it all. Remember I am from the Balkans and I don't give a shit about the Greek channels.
Thats why I said in my above post
"Quote"
No doubt the truth will come out in the next few days or so.
As for Evagoras I also think he should have waited until things are finalised a bit more than what it is at the moment and that will happen soon.
Guys please keep the Agro down otherwise I will close this thread.
Evagoras I hope you were not used by your pals back in Cyprus.
Nothing is for nothing in this world.
If it cost UBI any money to bring this channel to this country it must be passed on to the people who want it, Now this is even simple for me to understand so I don't understand what the fuss is all about.
Quite simple really
If U.B.I are desperate to broadcast this channel then they pay the costs to get it to Aus. If the arrangement includes a clause that it must remain FTA on both Telstar10 and B3 then so be it.

Even if it is FTA it still adds value to the UBI Greek package for those that are subscribing to it.

Otherwise forget the channel let someone else provide it.
this is becoming a huge issue, we should wait for 2 weeks to see what happens as Liski said..

quote:
Originally posted by apsattv:
Quite simple really
If U.B.I are desperate to broadcast this channel then they pay the costs to get it to Aus. Do you honestly think any sane provider will take it if they are going to make nothing out of it? Again to stay FTA the Cyprus Government must pay all including the electricity bill for that part of the transponder.
Noones forcing ubi to take this channel

If they want it badly enough then they do the distribution themselves and carry the cost of it.

If the contract with the channel states it must remain FTA then its pretty simple.

Up to UBI they either want it or they don't their choice. The Cyprus channel most likely couldn't care less if they were beamed over Asia and Australia or not.
Phil, I don't understand why you insist on saying the same thing over and over again while there is a TRT EXAMPLE on UBI.

UBI bring TRT from Europe and carry all the cost assosiated with it. and guess what???? yes you guessed it right... It's FTA !!!
In this case nobody will carry it as you tell me what stupid company would put it on their platform and make nothing from it. If they want UBI to carry it and run it FTA they must pay all cost + compensate for lost revenue on that one position on that carrier.
Lazer has just told me that trt is not coming from europe so u could be right then.
to what i've seen on TRT

UBI use a existing signal of TRT either be B3 or T3 why waste money to bring a channel in when its FTA around the region already

I know this as i saw a Globecast tech diffulculties screen once on TRT

quote:
Originally posted by LAZERSAT:
to what i've seen on TRT

UBI use a existing signal of TRT either be B3 or T3 why waste money to bring a channel in when its FTA around the region already

I know this as i saw a Globecast tech diffulculties screen once on TRT

Yes not only once it has happened before
The above link is the official release from Cyprus Sat which proves that this channel has not signed any exclusive deals. In fact they request official tenders for the broadcast of Cyprus Sat FTA or a combination of both ( as is the case with TRT ), in Australia, Asia, North America, South America and Afria. Applications have closed on 2/12/05. This looks like they will negotiate with anyone.
Yes and the Date has passed
2nd December was the deadline

Also that link has been taken off the main page as it was on the main page the other day
Thanks Lazer. But, I just found this link today.

Also, by the looks of this it sounds like everyone is going to be in this race (ie UBI, Select and Globecast).
Whats Globecast going to do with it??

Only reason why Globecast have ERT Sat is cause the Greek Goverment Pays Globecast to Distribute it

If it doesnt make money Globecast won't have it
As Globecast here are like the middle man they do the work for the Broadcaster and are payed to do so for the company who has contracted them to do it
I would say that if Globecast gets it they will have it under similar term and conditions as those for ERT. For example, the Cypriots may contract Globecast to distribute Cyprus sat for a descent profit I am sure.

I do not know who they are negotiating with. My sources would not reveal this info. All I know is that they are negotiating with Tarbs Europe for the contract to distribute worldwide. They also admitted that they were talking to other companies as well but they did not reveal who. I do not know whether they are negotiating with Globecast. I am just assuming that they are as they state that the company which distributes ERT will be treated with preferance as they prefer to be with the same carrier as ERT.
To what i know ERT Sat make nothing out of the Deal they have with Globecast they pay from A to B so i wouldt think Cyprus Sat would make nothing out of it either

Anyway I've said enough for now im just going to let progress it self out now and see what happens
Same here. I have said enough so I think I will give it a bit of a rest for now and wait and see what happens. It should be quite interesting.
Yes only time will sort this one out.
So its still FTA i wonder how lonf for or is the Cypriot Government going to pay its way to stay FTA for Australian and UBI will be not out of pocket.
Alpha is also stil FTA i dnt think there finished encrypting everything yet

quote:
Originally posted by Notvyet:
So its still FTA i wonder how long for or is the Cypriot Government going to pay its way to stay FTA for Australian and UBI will be not out of pocket.

Good point, again time will tell as it was said by another member on another post that UBI is not a charity.
If it cost UBI one cent UBI should recover cost, I hope UBI is reading this.
Has been stated plenty of times if UBI wish to carry it and Cyprus states it MUST remain FTA then UBI can either like it or lump it.

UBI ain't being forced to carry it
Thats right Apsattv. UBI have asked for permission to carry the signal on a tempory basis. This is because the tender is still up for negotiations even as we speak. UBI are not forced to carry this signal. What is certain is that if UBI win the rights to Cyprus Sat, they will not be exclusive and the signal will remain FTA as per the media release from Cyprus Sat themselves. Also, if UBI win the contract for distribution in Australia, then it will be on a profit basis for UBI.

As for the rest, I do not like how some members play dumb and insult our intelligence. No one expects anyone to do anything for free.
Again, for all those who missed the media release from Cyprus Sat that I posted earlier, here it is again:

http://www.cybc.com.cy/anakinosi.html

And its all Greek to you!
Cyprus sat is off air. I wonder if there is anything wrong.
I'm with UBI and it's working for me using my TARBS box. In fact it's the only channel of Greek nature, the rest are having technical difficulties and are offline.

However I cannot find RIK SAT on my FTA box. I wonder if it's been encrypted?
I don't think its encrypted. The screen says "service unknown"
Sigma is playing on mine but the rest are not running proper
I'm sure the Greek channels will return shortly.
RIK is working for me on my tarbs box

BTW it has moved so delete and rescan
I deleted it and rescanned. It did not come back. It is completely gone.
im watching it now my tarbs box its not gone
Well its gone from my FTA box. I am gonna have to get a Tarbs box and subscribe to Tarbs again. But I will not give them 12 months subscription ever again (Tarbs/UBI).
if u do abit of reading u would of known already u dnt need to pay no more then 1 month ahead anyway
I sold my last Tarbs box.
Yeh because I don't think anyone will go for anything else. That is pay for more than 1 month.
Did you loose any money with TARBS?
So can anyone tell me how I can pick up Rik Sat in the mean time? What frequency is it on? It could take atleast 2-3 weeks to subscribe to UBI.
its on 12425 H 22500 but seems to be encrypted
Unfortunately I lost some money as did lots of others. But I am not complaining. I feel more sorry for the workers that lost their jobs.
Thanks for your help, Lazer.
Any former TARBS World TV subscribers who made advance subscription fee payments for periods of more than one month for which services were not received, are eligible to receive UBI WORLD TV subscription credit for payments that had been made. Terms and conditions about this ‘Goodwill Offer’ are available by calling the Customer Care Centre on 1300 400 800.
The TARBS Team was one hell of a team!
Thanks Liski. I will call tomorrow.
I hope the previous employees were absorbed by UBI. Its not good when workers lose their jobs under those circumstances.
Those that wanted to come back did - most of them found jobs by the time UBI started.
I guess that UBI have picked up some rights to RIK Sat. This is why it has been encrypted.
I can still pick it up here on my FTA receiver.

Ubi must be still changing things around

mixo
RIK SAT will be FTA sometime this morning.
Yes FTA again now on 12425 H 22500
Yes, but I wonder how long it will remain FTA. Decision is pending in the next few days. I can see it through my crystal ball.
Only in certain areas. I don't have a crystal ball like yours though that seems to know a little bit about everything.
whats the crystal ball telling you evagoras??
wow Liski... many thanks for those GREAT news!

Will call Ubi tomorrow!!!
Crystal ball is telling me lots. What is it you want to know, Lazersat?
what is happening with RIK ??
Lazersat,

PM me your mobile phone number and I will call you and tell you verbally. I am not going to make public what I know until it is official.
