I thought it'd be useful if we could discuss all TECHNICAL issues related to the new box here. So UBI can get some feedback and hopefully fix them.

after fiddling around with the box last night, I found.

1) changing channels now takes longer
2) there is an irritating noise when changing channels
3) and as a request; it'd be great to have middle arrows to work for changing channels and controlling volume on the remote.

I'll add more as I find. Have you guys found anything else or got any requests?

Sharp,

1) The delay is due to the tuner on the STB
2) Will hopefully be fixed with a software update once the roll out is completed
3) I don't think the RC will be changed

I have a problem...........with the installer
I don't know how many people got their boxes in Wollongong today but it certainly wasn't me even after making the appointment a day earlier specificaly telling them it has to be after 12...but she shows up at 11.30 and after saying she'll be back in half a hour.....well still waiting for the installer. And what makes things worse is the installer is not the real installer (technician) but his wife doing his part time job for him.

UBI I think you're getting ripped off too.

Please UBI can't you get your act together and get some credible installers who are efficient and true to their word......please......pretty please.

Most people think that everyone can be upgraded within the same week - impossible

The installers need to plan out the route, confirm with customer and then get around and upgrade them.

Just a thought: It's funny that a lot of customer choose not to advise UBI when they change their home or mobile number.

Dan04,
You've been advised multiple times through PM to be patient. Customers in QLD will start to be called end of the week.

Alcatron,
SA was started at the start of the week.

Mule,
VIC is well underway
Posted By: RATLSNAKE Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 07 Jun 2006 04:34:AM
I think the reason some customers may be concerned is because earlier on in the process, the tentative date for activating the IRD2 encrypted signal, was around mid-June, as the UBI promo stated.

When I rang to see if UBI CCC could provide any info regarding when I may expect a call I was told they cannot say as the hired contractors make that decision, and they have no control over it, but they WILL get to all customers.

When I asked if UBI planned to still encrypt come June 15, he wasn't sure if there was a strict deadline, but did say he recalled hearing about a date similar to that, but couldn't confirm.

All we can do is wait patiently.

RATLSNAKE

The following is NOT to cause an argument, but simply a FYI for anyone concerned with what was posted here; http://www.aus-city.com/ubbthreads/...Number=29295&page=0&vc=1

I can report that finally today I received my new UBI box, and the installer said he was not going to ask for my MDS box because he had encountered some serious trouble with a client he had installed last week, and so was not going to get involved with collecting boxes anymore, and said that he was on a tight schedule to finish by the 15th June.

So I called UBI again to inquire about this "possible fee" clause, and the CCC Rep I spoke to, told me they only just realised the clause was worded in such a way a few days ago (although I called about weeks ago) and to ignore it, as it is wrong, as they are only primary concerned that clients must return the NEW box if they leave the service, which is fair enough with me.

She said she would put some notes under my account stating she has assured me this will NOT happen, so I suppose if it ever did I would be covered to some leniant extent I suppose. She also said she would pass on a message to the appropriate department, about potentially making this known to all other customers, perhaps with their monthly invoices, considering this document is legally binding even though she assured me it was an incorrectly phrased statement.

Hope this settles anyone curious about this issue.

RATLSNAKE

I had a problem this morning around 8:00am, the signal is gone (for all channels) and a display of a message appeared saying that it is searching for signal at 12674. I've got the new UBI box, and checking the stength=63% and quality=0%

any idea what's wrong and what I need to do, thank you.

An installer who replaced the box at my brother in law house last Wednesday told him after the upgrade UBI will offer an English channels package (Movie channels, CNN, Discovery .... etc) at extra costs.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 16 Jun 2006 05:51:AM
installers wouldnt know anything more than we do about ubi's future decisions. they're not even employed by ubi.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 14 Jul 2006 09:06:AM
now. it takes much shorter to change channels but that annoying noise is still there but less frequent.
Posted By: RATLSNAKE Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 14 Jul 2006 04:48:PM
Thanks for confirming that Sharp.

I mentioned that the noise is still there in another thread, but no one responded to say it was still happeneing to them too.

Cheers.

mule,
I had the same problem I told them and they sent me a new remote and now it works fine, you must return your old remote within 7 days or face a $33 fee.

What is happening with the sound quality on the Turkish Channels, they are continuallly breaking up randomly on different channels when one is good another starts to break up. Also when is the electronic program guide going to come back and will UBI switch on the other function on these boxes to allow channel switching at preselected times. I do believe these boxes do have this functionality, despite what is said in the manuals sent with them.
Posted By: Liski Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 02 Aug 2006 12:23:AM
MadScientist,

With the sound try to descrease the level on the STB to about 75% and control it with your TV remote.

Regarding the TV Guide for Vizyon I don't excatly know when this will start.

This is a first I hear of "channel switching at preselected times".
Posted By: ShaRp Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 02 Aug 2006 10:04:AM
Liski,

no improvement on the channel moving problem yet?

Posted By: MadScientist Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 02 Aug 2006 10:38:PM
Liski have a look at the manual pg 20 Section Setting an Autotune banner reminder in the User Manual that comes from the manufacturer, currently the normal banner reminder is active, I believe for the autotune reminder to work will require the EPG to be active hence my previous question even if we dont get the EPG if the time blocks are setup then it will allow us to switch at a preselected time.UEC 990 User Manual
Posted By: Liski Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 02 Aug 2006 11:13:PM
MadScientist,

That manual is for the "MultiChoice" paytv service and has the Autotune feature as they offer an interactive service eg Foxtel Digital.

I don't know if/when this feature will appear on the UBI STB.
Posted By: Liski Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 04 Aug 2006 04:40:AM
Sharp,

What is the actual problem your getting with channel arrangement?
Posted By: RATLSNAKE Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 04 Aug 2006 07:18:AM
Liski,

It sounds like Sharp is having the same issue as I reported a while ago.

In which let's say I would like to move ERT to be positioned before Alpha channel.
I move it, and save it just as the instructions state, and when I exit the menu, ERT has stayed where it is, and one of the Arabic channels, say channel 6 has moved to the position right after channel 72.

It's really strange.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 04 Aug 2006 10:28:AM
ratlesnake is right.

Liski, as I explained earlier, just try to move channel 77 to channel 37 and see what I mean.
Posted By: MadScientist Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 04 Aug 2006 01:21:PM
I have seen exactly the same problem as Sharp, the channel stays for several hours then the box decides to rescan and change the locations back to their original positions, sometimes losing all the Turkish channels forcing me to do a manual update confused
Posted By: Liski Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Fri 04 Aug 2006 01:46:PM
Sharp/MadScientist,

I believe there is a bug in the software which should be fixed with the software update which will be sent very soon.
Posted By: RATLSNAKE Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sat 05 Aug 2006 02:35:AM
I'm glad to hear this will finally be resolved.

Can you notify us when this fix is pushed to the STBs so the 3 of us can verify the fix?
Posted By: ribra Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sat 12 Aug 2006 02:14:AM
I have a problem with the new box and I wonder if any one else has the same. Sometimes when I switch between channels 74, 75, 76, 77, 78 and 79 the screen goes black and I loos all channels. The only way to fix this problem is to unplug the power cord and plug it again.
Posted By: ShaRp Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sun 13 Aug 2006 03:31:PM
thanks to software upgrade, ubi channels can be moved around now. smile

When is the program guide going to be activated, in particular for vizyon
Posted By: Engineer Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sun 20 Aug 2006 07:51:AM
The channel arrangement was working fine on my unit before the software upgrade. Now it reverts back to original settings after several hours. Any ideas on a fix?
Posted By: Dan04 Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sun 20 Aug 2006 07:56:AM
Liski,
The information on the info bar eg (channel name and language) goes blank after a few days, its only when I turn the power off from the remote and on.. it comes back then goes blank a few days later

Is this normal?

Thanks
Posted By: MadScientist Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Sun 20 Aug 2006 08:17:AM
Ditto, I have exactly the same problem previously it would require a remap now in several hours it has moved backed to where it was, this is particularly annoying for the radio channels crazy crazycan we have a quick fix. Also still no answer on the program guide, is anybody listening sleep sleep

MadScientist,

Re the TV Guide - I've said it before that I think only Vizyon and ANA would get a TV Guide as they are produced by UBI. I don't have any information on when this will be implemented.
Posted By: Narsil Re: UBI BOXES - Questions, Problems, Requests - Wed 23 Aug 2006 10:24:PM
Has anyone woke up this morning to find their UBI STB's to be "crashed". I left mine on last night to record a show overnight on channel 68, and when i got up for work, the box said channel 6, and had no picture and wouldn't respond to the remote.
I reset it by pushing the 2 buttons, buth then lost all my UBI channels. SO I did a re-scan and they all came back. This is my first issue with the box. ANyone else seen this problem?
