Abit much for 1 channel I reckon. The only other provider of AJE is TransACT, and they're charging only $1.95.
Posted By: LAZER Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Mon 18 Dec 2006 08:06:AM
I heard that $9.95 is only for AJI only and nothing else
It's stil included in the overall package at no extra charge

TransAct charge $1.95 but you got to get one of there packages like there basic pack or something

I dont think many people would pay $10 to see one channel. Maybe if they get a couple of more channels and bundle it all for $10 extra, then it would work out. Because people already think $60 is too much

Liski can you clarify?

You're offering AJE as a standalone channel for $9.95 or $9.95 on top of the standard packages?
Posted By: Liski Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Mon 18 Dec 2006 09:52:AM
A-la-carte simply means that if you wish to get it as a standalone channel you can.

I know what a-la-carte means. Your press release didn't clearly state if you could indeed get it as a standalone or as an add on.

reuder,

If it was a "Add On" channel like TV Globo is then I would say it's available as an Add On.

when is Tv Globo going to by an a-la-carte channel? I'm paying $60/month for channels I'll never watch and never will. there's thousands Brazilians out there that would subscribe tomorrow for Tv Globo only, but they prefer Foxtel instead. for the same amount of money they can watch several channels, not only one.

I think if TV Globo ever did go A la Carte it would be around $30 a month... I reckon

i think it means you pay $9.95 and you get AJ only or pay $59.95 and get it in the package.

Why's that?? $30 is better than $60 anyway...
We currently pay $60 to watch one channel and one channel only. There are 30 Arabic TVs, 20 Turkish, 10 Greek etc. That people pay the same amount I pay to watch one channel. Not fair at all.

LISKI??

mule,

I do not know when or what price TV Globo would be - but it will probably be around the $30 mark. At the moment it's $9.95 as it's being subsidised by the World TV package/s.

Simply put some channels cost more then others and some broadcasters request certain conditions/payment when making an agreement.

2007 will bring lots of new surprises and ways to enjoy and watch UBI.

I don't imagine anything to radical. The large majority of UBI's customer base wants channels, that's it, no fancy business.

Depends what kind of " Fancy Buisness " were talking about LOL laugh grin teehee kidding

Well that's obvious! A crappy PVR! I'm sure yaya and bapu Eftimiliosis will have fun trying to figure out how to work the bloody thing. Also, if you're going to set up a PVR then maybe sort out the TV guides first.

Here's what the PVRs (Digital Satellite Decoders - the left column) might look like. http://www.uec-technologies.com/uectech.com/products.php

PVR could be one of the many surprises and don't worry when/if the PVR is launched a 7 day TV Guide will be ready.

There is even more exciting things in the pipeline.

Posted By: The_Artist Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Wed 27 Dec 2006 12:20:AM
I had a look at the new line up for UBI and there is one arabic channel coming soon ..I wish it will be Alalrabiya or Alforat..
can you confirm that Liski?
Posted By: Dan04 Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Wed 27 Dec 2006 12:59:AM
Al arabiya is with another company so forget that channel.
Posted By: LAZER Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Wed 27 Dec 2006 01:02:AM
Yeah another Company who doesnt even broadcast it and has had the rights for it for over 2 years now and yet stil doesnt show it on there service LOL

So go speak to World Media International about it as they have it and dont even show it
Posted By: The_Artist Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Wed 27 Dec 2006 01:14:AM
hhmm...Its funny how we almost got all the channels that used to be on tarbs days back on UBI now but not alarabiya and MBC, i hope they get better channels like alarabiya or MBC ...
Posted By: Liski Re: Al Jazeera English A-la-carte - Wed 27 Dec 2006 01:21:AM
I doubt that Al Alrabiya will make a comeback due to WMI but then again you never know.

I'm not aware of any new Arabic channels apart from the short test on CH57 of Agaphy TV that ended. UBI wanted to keep it FTA but the church wanted to charge $20 a month for it so it has been removed.

I would prefer to clean up the Arabic package and remove the unwatched/unpopular channels to make remove for the English package smile
