Hey

I heard on the radio that UBI is now offering for new customers, FREE decoder box and one month free if you subscribe before 28th Feb.

is it true? can anyone confirm?

Amr Diab,

This is correct.

- Free Activation (Normally $49.95)
- Free First Month (Normally $59.95)
- Free Lease of UBI STB (Yours to keep free of charge while your a UBI customer, upon termination the STB must be returned to UBI).
- 6 Month Contract
- Following 5 months must be paid monthly by Credit Card or Direct Debit.

The only upfront fee would be the technician fee (Connection, Repoint or Install)

This sounds good

About the technician fee...how much is it normally?

and why cant we get the STB and do it ourselves

Amr Diab,

Sydney Metro:

Connection $65 (If dish is already pointed to Optus B3 and cable is already installed)
Repoint $75
Standard Install $250

It's UBI Policy that a UBI approved installer installs the STB at the desired location, this is to make sure it's working and covers warranty of the STB.

Well in my case, the dish is already pointed to Optus B3

so practically all i need is to plug the UBI STB in. So in that case i only need to pay the $65 Connection.

including delivery?

Amr Diab,

The $65 Connection Fee includes the technician coming over, installing the STB and calling UBI to activate the contract with you over the phone.

This is the best time to join if you are interested in joining. Once this offer is over the STB might be $195 as it was before this offer.

Its all clear now.

Thanks alot Liski for your feedback and will consider the offer.

$250 for the guy to install it? when everything is connected? Come on Liski?!?!

Dish is aligned, cables in place, surely this technician plugging in the box and running a scan is not going to be worthy of the $250 charge.

Let me see, is this a way that UBI recoup some of the setup costs... $100 for the technicaion and $150 to UBI?

It surely wont take the technician more than 60min at most to configure this. The $250/hour.. is this guy a braing surgeon?

Geezzzz I wonder sometimes...

hahaha.. warranty???? come on Liski... that must mean I should of got Harvey Norman out to install my DVD player, as the warranty is probably void! LOL

HAHA, so you're TV is in the living but the STB gets installed in one of the bedrooms?
The only 'desired' location is next to the TV!

If we let the customer install the STB and something goes wrong, do you expect UBI to send a technician free of charge to fix the problem? No

The whole point of using a UBI approved installer is to make sure it's all working.

balkancic,

$250 Install = Dish Install. If you read my post you will see that I qouted $65 if the his dish is already aligned to Optus B3 and there is already a cable connection.

Also UBI doesn’t recoup any money as the UBI approved installers are not employed by UBI. The money stays with the technician to pay his time and material.

I can have my dish pointed to B3, on the UBI promo channel. All that needs to be done is to plug in the box.

His statemenets suggest that this will cost $250.

Like i said balkancic read carefully...

To connect the box if your dish is already on B3 is only $65 ( Techie comes over and installs the BOX for you sets it up etc $65 - SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS
