it would have been useful if you told if customers need to do anything in order to continue watching ubi.

This is only the launch of D2 - not the actual shifting from B3 to D2.

There should be no need for the customer to do anything other then just leave the STB alone and not fiddle with it during the change over.

Ariane 5 soars to success with Intelsat 11 and Optus D2

Arianespace's workhorse Ariane 5 scored its fourth dual-payload launch success of 2007, orbiting the Intelsat 11 and Optus D2 payloads during a mission performed from the Spaceport in French Guiana this evening.

The 178th launcher in the Ariane series delivered its two smaller-sized spacecraft during 32 minutes of flight. Both payloads were built by U.S. manufacturer Orbital Sciences Corporation at its Dulles, Virginia, plant using the company's STAR 2 platform.

Arianespace Chairman & CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall noted the launch occurred just six months after the Intelsat 11's launch contract was signed with Washington, D.C.-based Intelsat.

"This clearly demonstrates the flexibility of our Service & Solutions offer," Le Gall said. "Furthermore, tonight's launch brings to 20 the number of successes in a row for Ariane 5, once again establishing Arianespace as the world reference for this industry.

Intelsat 11 rode as the upper Ariane 5 payload for this mission, and was released about 28 minutes after liftoff. Once the satellite arrives at the final orbital position of 43 deg. West, it will host Latin America's premiere video programmers and the region's largest DTH (direct-to-home) platform.

Weighing approximately 2,500 kg. at liftoff, Intelsat 11 carries a hybrid payload composed of C-band and Ku-band transponders.

Ariane 5 deployed Optus D2 at 32 minutes after liftoff, and this spacecraft ultimately will be positioned at 152 deg. East. This 2,350-kg. platform will join the fleet of Australian-based telecommunications provider Optus, enabling the development of new business opportunities for the direct-to-home market, new data services as well as services bundling.

at the moment, the turkish channels' signal is 38% during the day and this falls to 30% during the night and the picture becomes unclear and stops and this improves again after midnight. i hope this resolves with optus D2...

That would be because the Optus B3 High Performance beams hardly covers Tasmania.

As mentioned before Optus D2 will finally give UBI Australia wide coverage.

very good, do you know when is the swap over?
Posted By: RATLSNAKE Re: Optus D2 Launch - Sun 07 Oct 2007 10:55:PM
So even though I only have a 65cm dish, I too should get a better signal when the swap-over occurs?

hi guys,
About optus D2 swap over the Optus B3 I contact a guy @ optus and he told me that within a few months they will swap it over because They will test Optus D2 first, to make sure it's working as it should.

Thank you

thanks arabic pack for letting us know

Turkmen,

You should have no problem what so ever with a 1.8 and D2 smile
Posted By: LAZER Re: Optus D2 Launch - Mon 08 Oct 2007 01:11:PM
It would be most likely a few weeks then months....

And anyway I don't think Optus would give out that sort of information out to the general public...

Since D2 is the same series as D1 it would be safe to assume it will have the same footprint over Australia (http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/optusd1_aus.html) and NZ (http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/optusd1_nz.html)

Please note that the existing SCTV frequency will change from mid Dec 2007. In order to continue watching our programs, you will be required to change the parameters on your receiver/decoder as follows:

Frequency – 12608
Polarisation – H
Symbol Rate – 22500
FEC - 3/4.

The position of your satellite dish should remain the same. UBI subscribers are not required to make any changes, as their receivers/decoders will be updated automatically.
