Foxtel's new ( OVER RATED ) PVR System for Foxtel Digital What a joke this box is LOL <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> http://australianit.news.com.au/articles/0,7204,12328677^15321^^nbv^15306,00.html FOXTEL Digital's IQ Personal Digital Recorder is likely to change the way we all view television. It may also interfere with the collective experience of watching something as a nation, and having water-cooler discussions about it the next day. Whatever its effect, the IQ PDR will be here next month. The box contains a standard-definition set-top box, which works in concert with a 160GB hard drive (for about 60 hours of recording) and two television tuners. The device integrates Foxtel's Digital Guide, an electronic program guide that Foxtel will maintain in co-operation with the free-to-air networks. This will enable easy, one-button recording of any program in the guide, and even series recording, enabled by the green Series Link button, so every episode of a particular program on a channel will be recorded automatically. Using the PDR, viewers will be able watch programs at any time that suits them, rather than collectively, as we tend to do now. As with hard-drive DVD recorders, features such as chase play (watching the beginning of a recording while the device continues to record the end), will be on the PDR. In addition, the presence of the two tuners means users can record two programs simultaneously while watching a third pre-recorded show. Users can also pause live television if the phone rings or someone comes to the door, thanks to a section of the hard drive that can be set to record up to an hour of everything viewed. A bonus of this feature is that users can instantly rewind live television to check if a tennis shot was in or out, or to replay something missed. Most programs can be set to Keep status, for indefinite storage on the hard drive, but citing digital rights management, Foxtel says it will not make programs available for export from the hard drive. The IQ PDR will be widely available in early March and will be previewed in selected Myer stores. For existing Foxtel subscribers, the service costs a one-off access fee of $395, plus $100 installation, and then $5.95 a month. Newcomers to the service will pay standard installation fees as well. my 2 cents worth $395 ( for the PVR box + $100 (For install) + $5.95 per month ( service fee ) what a joke this system is u pay all this money for it and you dont even get to own it yes the $395 doesn't mean u own it its still and always will remain the property of FOXTEL another one of foxtel's So called digital revolutions <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" /> Dont see much use for it everything that is shown on foxtel is repeated to the death and some of the movies that u will record on it u will only be allowed to keep them on the PVR HDD for 2 days after that it gets deleted but wait it gets better u cannot transfer these files to your computer cause the smarties at foxtel have encrypted the file system and files and also disabled the USB port on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" /> more info about this great ( crap ) Foxtel IQ box here http://www.foxteliq.com.au/

forgot to mention for foxtel satellite users some of u may lose signal while it rains so this GREAT box goes into lockdown mode so this means u cannot view any of the stuff u have stored on ur HDD until it gets a signal again FOXTEL security features on this box <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" />

Its crap as far as PVR's go and has customised crippleware installed by Foxtel. Luckily , if you are an Austar subscriber ( Irdeto , Foxtel is NDS ) you can buy your own , such as the Topfield PVR 4000. I bought one new about 2 years ago.

Do you see the price they want for the shit of a think, Like $350 up front + $6 per month. A Dreambox is 100 times better with a 300 GIG H/drive and the Dreams Images are 1000 times better then anything that the foxtel PVR can do. By the way rumours around are saying it wont be long before there is a soft cam for NDS.

Phil, I'm still waiting for the 7080/5S will be couple of hundred dollars more but with lots of goodies...Are they gonna support them immediatelly of will take another 3-6months as usuall?...I put a zipper on mine to make it quick for the responses... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" />

Non factory images such as ones from The Hydra include SoftCams ( software cams ) like Radegast which you can use to share your susbscription card on your network. It also allows you to share your card with others via Broadband. The next model Dreambox will have interchangable tuners , you can have 2 of either satellite or digital terrestrial or one of both.

Dreambox a brilliant box, but take note they're not a easy box to play with, do plenty of studing when playing with them.

I got my Foxtel PDR / Foxtel IQ unit. Lets just say Im impressed. Its unbelievable, regardless what some of you guys think, before you judge it try it. I can only say good things about it. 110% recomended

well the only thing i dnt like about it is u pay $395 for but u dnt own it and u have to pay $5.95 extra a month to have it for something u payed $395 for but u will never own it thats the thing i dnt like

with the PVR can you rewind live tv ?? because if you can i;ll get one of those and not foxtels

I have a Dreambox with a 300Gig drive, can do the same + more tricks , but the Dreambox is lots more complicated thats the problem.
