4.7 quake 28 Dec 2:43 am (GMT +6:30)

A shallow magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported early morning near Mawlaik, Mawlaik District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar (Burma).
According to India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake hit on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021, at 2:13 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.7, and Thailand's Earthquake Observation Division (TMD) at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Palan (pop. 5,400) located 45 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mawlaik (pop. 44,500) located 97 km from the epicenter.
