The aussiefrogs.com server suffered a serious crash and thus far we are still trying recover the server.
aus-city.com is taking all the web traffic for aussiefrogs.com until its resolved.
Its overly complicated, but the backup server which is separately hosted is also caught in all the mess.
For now there is this general forum where you can discuss topics.
We still have no ETA of a resolution or fix.
Guess we hang around here feeling slightly newish ...
friday403
At least we all now know what is going on.....
Bad timing eh Gerry?
EDIT:
Forgot the say thannx to AF admins and David for getting an alternative site up and running in around 24 hours
Must remember to replace the hamsters with hamsters as the Frogs and toads just don't cut it!
Again thanks for the alternate site it such quick time.
Cheers,
Bluey
gibgib,
It's times like these that we remember how much we enjoy our daily frogger 'fix'.
The alt site is a great contingency arrangement - especially as we don't normally get out much ...
friday403
Wow yes, somewhere new to explore!
Good luck with the server problems. Thanks for setting up the temporary communications.
gibgib
...take care and look after yourself...get some sleep...
we ll get there...a few days without AF isnt going to hurt anybody...dont stress and remember that the loyal AFers will always be there at the end...you can not get rid of us that easily...
cheers and wishing you all the best...
dino
ps...big thanks to this alternate site for helping out...
Dear GOD!!!
I go to the Snowy for three days on fieldwork and come back to KAOS.....Arghhhhh the humanity...
Tibetan monks have been engaged to chant for the successful reincarnation of AF...
Any spare women frequent this place?
Where's the bloody 'cheers' smiley thingie when you need it?
Mike.
re Autopuzzles having gone down - they're back - and saying it's 'snappier', too
but i noticed this - in case it helps; (realise maybe just makes it worse for gibgib, etc)

Dunno how you others got here, but I only found this place by accident.....
To get more of the regular AFers here, perhaps it would be worth emailing those members you know the addresses of?
(Oh, don't bother Russell, he's just a pain in the @rse!)
Cheers,
Mike.
reminds me i've lost some postal addresses in the pm's ...
I got here by trying to log onto the normal
www.aussiefrogs.com it simply redirected me here.
Hate to say it I was like a thirsty man yesterday without a drink with AF down
I wrote a mod_apache script to rewrite the headers and direct any of the old links to the main page regardless of what old AF URL is entered. This way you don't get server not found or 404 errors from aus-city.com

Well said Dino.
Nice place this - thanks for having us around. Have you seen the smileys here - there's zillions of them.
Thanks Dave for keeping us hobbling along.
And yeah the smileys are good!
yes they are, aren't they!
There must be hundreds of people looking for Aussiefrogs. How can we let them know where we are? The direct link aussiefrogs-Aus-city doesn't seem to work anymore.

I just tested it and see what you mean. When I typed in aussiefrogs.com.au in the address line I was directed to a yahoo search page where some aussiefrogs topics were listed. Then when I clicked on a topic I got "IE cannot find display the webpage... etc".
Yet when I clicked on my original Aussiefrogs bookmark I was directed here again.
I'm probably saying the obvious: Maybe we could email and/or call our froggy friends who we have contact details of and let them know.
OMG I just saw the huge list of emoticons!!!

That's because
www.aussiefrogs.com never had a ".au"
Yeah, fair enough, I forgot and got confused.
At least I didn't try ".me"
My post was more about letting other members know about this site.
Kaye
Glad to see some familiar name here!!
Im having trouble typing as Im shaking so much from the withdrawals!!
Spread the word!!

Just as I thought, you've all sneaked off to a party and haven't told me. But I have my ways of tracking you down!
PLEASE somebody tell me they've got a copy of the 203 wiki. Personally I blame Mike's pictures for the collapse, there's only so much a server can bear.
Russell
Is this the Gold Members' lounge???
I'm relieved to see some familiar names and some not so familiar names... and so far I've figured out who everybody is.
Adding my voice to the messages to Gerry not to stress, and to those offering thanks for all the work currently going on behind the scenes.
Like others, I felt a bit lost when AF wouldn't load, but I've come to expect and accept computer malfunction.
Meanwhile, am I the only AFer with the lyrics "star-trekking across the universe" running through their head?

Yep, I've got one. And I'm keeping it.: clink :,
Mike
I only thought the other day I should (a) finish it and (b) print a copy. I thought it was much better than that 203 entry on Wikipedia. I don't know if I've got the brain cells left to do it again. Looks like bribes of pints of warm ale will have to be paid here.
Russell
Yeah, fair enough, I forgot and got confused.
That's perfectly ok
I didn't realise how often I looked at Aussiefrogs..
Thanks for having us

Yeah, a big thanks to Aus-City for having us!
Also if there is a hat being passed around please let me know. I'd be more than happy to contibute. It may be humble but every little bit could help towards getting aussiefrogs going again.
Couldn't resist this hat smilie....reminds me of someone....

+1
I have a backup of the wiki from March this year which I found last night. Anything after this is gone sorry.
That's a relief. I won't have to buy pints of warm brown ale for Mike.
Russell
Any idea what data is gone/recoverable? I'm hoping my 504 blog isn't gone for good!
John

Hey gib,
Is there any way we can capture from Wayback Machine, I know we've lost images linked to AF but the text is all there for many of our valuable threads (strangely thumbnail images have been captured) e.g.

I was getting visions of assault rifles, Lear jets, wrinkley henchmen...........

TO make sense the original poster could copy & paste the info across to a new thread on the old/ new AF. That's handy though, didn't know that.

Is there a way to get the Wayback Machine, or Google, admins help out? (As per
my earlier suggestion)

I take it you mean moi? At the weekends maybe, normally I'm...
Complete with cheroot!
Mike.
Holy crap! How can a company that provides professional hosting services be so incompetent as to have a backup system that isn't? So much has been lost! Unbelievable!
I hope the old stuff can be retrieved!
Mike in Canada
Finally found you all ...seems an impersonator got here first though
BUSTED! :P
anyway, Thank you for the temporary web hosting...I hope we don't overburden the servers here too much.
As for recovering threads...I have a sneaking suspicion (although I'm praying it's not so) that dad might have saved half of the global warming threads
there are some threads that should just be able to RIP
Dad's without a computer at the moment...I didn't have the heart to tell him anything more than aussiefrogs is down at the moment
Hopefully a partial restoration will be possible before I have to break the whole story to him gently
Aus
Hi found this and hope something is recovered.

BUSTED! :P
Obviously, someone wants to 'be' you. I wonder if anyone wants to impersonate an architect though???
Some parts of the forum can certainly be found via the caches of Google, Bing and others. I found and saved page 1 of the 2007 Longstroke DS/ID census, but embedded images are lost and it doesn't give the thread and post number. It does however, give the date and time of the post, so it may be possible to build a database of posts from that information.
Another possibility is to work offline in your browser and go through your AF history to display what's in the cache and then save anything important / useful as a complete webpage with images. Try it soon, before the browser clears it's cache.
Thanks to Aus-City for helping.
Edit: If you view the source of the cached Google page, you can obtain the thread number and post number, but it doesn't display on the page. It would be possible to write code to 'read' the source file of the cached page and extract enough information to re-populate a post and thread database.

not a bad idea
will have to try that and see what i can find
Just wondering (curious) how big the overall AF site was MB/GB wise before the crash. I have a company website where I upload & update the pages from files on my computer using FileZilla. But no forum, no traffic like AF.
Just got home from holiday to find this.................
Aaargh.
If there is anything I can do, I'd be pleased to help, but I haven't saved much from the Forum at all. Probably have the odd Alan Smith instruction and definitely the instruction on changing Xantia Clutch Cable clips without removing the dashboard.
As someone else said, if $$$$ are needed I'd be pleased to chip in.
Talking to my IT-savvy daughter, she was completely disbelieving that a backup could go so easily.
Best of luck to all those beavering away.
Now to dig out the battery charger and get the cars going.
Glad, like everybody else, that I have found this tempoary (hopefully) home of AF. Again like everybody, I hope that back-ups, if not all, but most, can be found and our old site and look can be restored.
Cheers,
Dave Rogers (Melbourne)
Come on guys, i need my daily dosis of frenchness... Bring back AF!!!
Cheers,
Roberto
Hello again in the new place....
Does anyone know when the forum will be available [ excepting the 24 hours from go-daddy declaration ? ], no matter where it will be hosted ?
Hello folks.
I thought it was time to join and show my support to the Aussiefrogs folk and the AUS-CITY folk

PS Some of us have let our hair down in this forum by choosing new usernames. I have used a different method! This place has such bizarre smilies, I can't resist them. Thanks Alisa.

We are all hoping some time tomorrow the old AF site should be back. Gibgib has promised to publish the IP, so the impatient ones in our ranks (me for one), can log on whilst the the changes are rippling through to the DNS'.
At present indications the restored site will be minus a few years posts, plus download centre and some of the other features.
At least we are still on the air and the regulars are still here.
None of us should forget the generosity of David and Alisa for welcoming AF members and the excellent work in getting us back on the air with a temporary host in around 24 hours.

A couple of us have been actively crawling the cache with various scripts, I'm not sure how much this will help, but I'm sure if things aren't recovered we can create something meaningful from it.
I've been running my script for a few days now, and there is still a LOOONG way to go. We're scouring yahoo, ms-live, google and wayback cache. I'd imagine most of the images and attachments cannot be retrieved.
I guess foremost is having a working site, we can discuss the recovery in more detail, but rest assured many froggers are doing whatever they can in their own way.
Gluck to the admins, and all involved.. God speed!
David.
Thanks heaps to all those who are sorting it out for us.
I'm enjoying my time here on aus city, but I'm also looking forward to going home.
So why is your smily shooting at us , Boyracer?
Vive Ze Frogs!
Best wishes to the recovery team and many thanks to the operators of this site.
I must be living under a rock of late!
Went to check on Aussiefrogs and I thought my computer was hijacked!
Much thanks must go to Aus-City for giving us a place for us french car tragics.
All the best to Gerry and team in restoring Aussiefrogs and making it bigger and stronger!
Billy
I have had some luck searching the Google cache with
gerry freed panhard
but I am so bogged down with my own forum maintenance that I haven't had time to download and store it.
I can't believe AF is offline! I'm not a very regular visitor but it feels like there's something missing.
Great though that aus-city is helping out.
If I can help out I'll be glad to offer server space, it could be used to rebuild whatever can be recovered. Contact me if you want to take me up on it.
Taco
It took me a few days to understand what happened.
At the beginning I thought it was an error but today I noticed "ANNOUNCEMENT - AUSSIEFROGS.COM and backups have been deleted by a godaddy error..."
I really feel something is missing.
A big thank you to our hosts and good luck getting AF back on.
It's true that you don't know what you've got untill you lose it
I heard the GoDaddy AF servers were seen on a truck being driven by "Harry" on his way towards the nearest sea port.
It'd be an ill wind if it blew no good at all...
