Hi-
This is my first official post.
I had to drive from Melbourne to Brisbane to deliver a car for my sister, while I was up there I visited Phil Debono to see this perfect setup that my brother has always talked about. My brother always talks about his setup in Brisbane, it is sometimes even a talking point at our dinner table and at his work at the University. Well its definitely eye and ear catching, Phil's setup is completey different from any others I have seen, most peoples picture theatre setups use a typical DVD player(not Sony)to a 5:1 channel Processor amplifier then to all the speakers, that is front left/right, rear left/right your centre channel and a sub woofer all coming from one unit, but not for Phil he uses a XMS-950 DVD player with a Dolby 5:1 channel processor inside, which has all audio outputs completely seperate so this means that he has a seperate amplifier for all channels, shit thats a lot of Yamaha amplifiers to drive. By doing this you are guaranteed 100% seperation although a typical 5:1 single amplifier/processor should do the same. We tested the setup and I can tell you it is pretty close to being perfect, the design of the room slightly lets the setup down but when it comes to total seperation between all channels it is very good and it equals my brothers setup.
But what makes phil's better is his MASSIVE TV, a 135cm rear projection Sony from the "US" and the picture quality is superb, being driven by SVHS from the DVD player to the TV.
But the one thing that make phil' extremely good is his Sub Woofer setup, I have never in all my years living in South Africa and 2 years in Australia seen any thing like it, he has 2 MASSIVE 200W English "KEF" sub woofers parked under/inside the long corner lounge with cables so thick that you could use them for jumper leads to start your car. So what this means is from the sub woofer output of the DVD player to a Yamaha amplifier to the KEF Sub Woofers under the lounge and because the long corner lounge (two identical lounges put together) has a tunnel all the way through it, so when there is an explosion or any Base action the lounge literally wants to take off.
Not only do you enjoy the movie on a Clear big screen you can also feel it too. Watching the movie Titanic, when the ship broke its back I tell you the lounge nearly did the same. Poor plaster around the lounge room, even the windows rattle during explosions.
(Ratings, I give it 10 out of 10, sorry Steve this is lots better).
And I will talk a little about all of your channels from all around the world (LOOK AT POST UNDER TRANSPONDER WATCH FORUM FOR 'PHILS SETUP"),
He has hundreds of different channels via satellite from around the world::: I will list you some nationalities: English/German/Portugese/Turkish/Arabic from many different countries/Asian from over 10 different countries/Italian /Greek/Russian/Iran/Spain,Argentina/Armenia/filipino/polish/Macedonian/Serbian/Korean/and plenty of others plus news services from around the world, USA Embassy Channels, shit is there nothing you can't get.
Back to school teaching on Monday, will have a lot to talk about, thanks for you hospitality and for allowing me to take some photos. I will definitely this week go out and buy an XMS-950 DVD player, I see what you mean, it plays anything, it really does!!!!
(PS We all Migrated from Johannesburg, South Africa to Melbourne Australia, what planet did you migrate from Phil???)

Peter

[ 18.
