An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 25 minutes ago 82 km southwest of Guaymas, Mexico, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7 km beneath the epicenter near Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, early evening on Friday 7 May 2021 at 7:23 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
