This ALCOAST announces the updated Supervisor of Civilians Tier I Self-Paced eLearning course (502197) now available via MilSuite. This course replaces the Supervisor of Civilians Tier I course that was formerly available on the Coast Guard LMS. a. The updated course is designed to be more user-friendly and to serve as an enduring tool for supervisors to reference for future just in time information needs. It is separated into clearly labeled and easily searchable modules that are delivered in a presentation-style format that include images, resulting in content that is more engaging. 2. This course is required for new supervisors at all levels with civilian employees in their reporting chain, as part of the DHS Leader Development Program (DHS LDP). a. First-time Supervisors of civilians that are new to DHS must take this course within the first 12 months of employment. b. Supervisors of civilians who have become first time supervisors while working within DHS must take this course within 12 months of becoming a supervisor. c. Supervisor of Civilians Tier I is the eLearning companion course to Supervisor of Civilians Tier II which is currently instructor led and in person. 7. Both Supervisor of Civilians Tier I and Tier II are part of the larger DHS LDP framework and requirements. 8. The DHS LDP provides a developmental roadmap for new and seasoned supervisors of GS/WG civilians, including: a. Complete a minimum of 40 hours of development of which at least 24 must be interactive, instructor-led delivery, covering requirements for development in eighteen knowledge areas essential for effective federal supervision. b. Complete 12 hours of competency development in targeted competencies and 12 hours of Leader-as-Teacher "Give Back" annually. 9.
