the other thread is closed so I have to start new one.<br />How come in Picture of Croatia showed WCQ games in Australia and North America eventho Setanta showed them also?<br /><br />I clearly remember when games were played in Croatia. Setanta had live coverage but POC showed them here in Canada next day. I think there is more to that Kanal D story.
Posted By: Croat Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:31:AM
just to add that the reason this time POC didn't show the game is because RTL (another TV station in Croatia, owned by Germans) has rigths to all games that are played outside of Croatia.<br /><br />If the game was played in Croatia, Picture of Croatia would have shown it, with delay ofcourse, due to how their broacast works (it's not live, but 3x8hrs)

Most of the soccer matches right for Australia (except the UEFA and English league) are held by Setanta<br /><br />Check out their website: http://www.setanta.com/content/setanta/website.nsf/page/9deb16ebce9c9bd680256e6d004aca75_

@Croat<br /><br />UBI did show the Replay of the game the next day on the locally produced turkish channel we have here on UBI called Vizyon <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/default/rolleyes.gif" /><br /> <br /> <small>[ 07. Just to throw in my 2 cents worth on this topic Kanal D was not blocked on UBI when Turkey played Denmark in a world cup qualifier on the 13th October 2004 nor was it blocked on the 17th of November 2004 when Turkey played Ukraine. I think guys we are all pawns in this complex game!!! I complained back in the Tarbs days when this first happened to the ACCC, who basically said there was nothing that they could do as Setanta had the Australian rights. So we bend over and cop it sweetly do we????
Posted By: Croat Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:30:PM
oh ok. maybe that's why POC showed games, becuase they were delayed.
Posted By: LAZER Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:31:PM
Setanta has EXCLUSIVE rights to it plain and simple thats buisness <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/default/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" />

Lazer I understand this very clearly but you can appreciate the public's confusion when previous matches are shown on UBI, yet are blocked this time. People have short memories and vent out their anger on UBI for being inconsistent. Now I hear that subscribers are out looking for pirated boxes, which I must add are booming again, because they don't want to renew their contracts once it ends.<br />Unfortunately this will only lead to a demise of the service as once there are not enough subscribers there will be no service, no matter what language. <br />Simple and plain business!!
Posted By: Croat Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:40:PM
maybe it has to do where the games were played.<br /><br />billy, where those two games played in Turkey?<br /><br />When POC showed their games, they were all played in Croatia. Now they don't show them as RTL has rights to games outside of Croatia.

yes i remember that Big Chief and the channels were FTA then and not encrypted was before UBI started to sell subscriptions for the turkish package
Posted By: billy_dakid Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:45:PM
Denmark game was in Denmark and the Ukraine game was in Turkey
Posted By: Big Chief Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:48:PM
And we are in Australia... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/default/confused.gif" /> <br /><br />Kanal D has capability for picking any sports channels around Europe..
Posted By: billy_dakid Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:48:PM
Big Chief I think you are correct for the Denmark game, Lazer UBI was encrypted for Turkish. Turkish package was one of the first packages to be encrypted around late September from memory.
Posted By: LAZER Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:50:PM
ok well nuthin can be done about it if u ask this question to Kanal D themselves there answer would be similar to ours i think
Posted By: billy_dakid Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:52:PM
And we are in Australia... <br /><br />Kanal D has capability for picking any sports channels around Europe<br /><br />Sorry Big Chief but I don't get what you are leading to..... it's the fact that we are in Australia and paying money to receive these channels that is causing this grief to many people when their channels get blocked off.
Posted By: Big Chief Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:54:PM
Remember, the Kanal D feed that UBI is picking is the Europe feed so they may have rights to it only over Europe. Kanal D and Setanta will instruct UBI to block off the game.<br /><br />If Setanta Sports allows UBI then hey you've got it.<br /><br />Maybe Setanta and UBI can come to an arrangement.
Posted By: billy_dakid Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 05:59:PM
Which is exactly what I am trying to lead to. Previously in Tarbs days when there was a game like this coming up, Tarbs would run a scroll on the bottom of the screen informing viewers that games will not be shown, not happening on UBI. You can understand why people are upset. They see ads on the channel promoting the game for a certain day and time, yet it gets blocked with no warning from UBI. Lack of communication from UBI.<br />I was a subscriber with Tarbs from 2000 and am yet to sign up with UBI purely because of these sorts of reasons, I don't appreciate being treated with discontent, whilst paying for it.
Posted By: LAZER Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 06:29:PM
Setanta Sports is starting a new channel soon on OPTUS B3 maybe UBI might add it to there platform also ??
Posted By: apsattv Re: about programming rights - Tue 07 Jun 2005 09:52:PM
What Kanal D needs to do is place a scroller over the match advertising saying NOT AVAILABLE TO VIEWERS IN AUSTRALIA. Or UBI needs to do it.
Posted By: imparator_terim Re: about programming rights - Wed 08 Jun 2005 12:20:AM
Lazer, you said that the game was replayed on Vizyon the day after. Well how are we supposed to know that? When we go to look for the TV Guide for Vizyon on the UBI Site it says:<br /><br />"Vizyon does not provide an online TV Guide.<br /><br />Please close this window to return to the UBI World TV Website."<br /><br />Are we expected to watch Vizyon 24/7 and wait for the ads to come up saying when things will be shown?<br /><br />Also, why doesnt UBI do some sort of deal with Setanta Sports and make the matches pay per-view or something? I know i wouldnt mind paying an extra $10-$15 to see a match, and people have to pay to get into the venues where the matches are being shown anyway.<br /><br />If they did work out some sort of arragement they could also allow non-members of UBI to watch the matches for a pay per-view (one time) fee, where they open the channel for the duration of the match and then close to afterwards.<br /> <br /> <small>[ 07. great idea imparator.<br />we all know setanta freqs fsking but i was told that the game was encrypted ????
Posted By: Liski Re: about programming rights - Thu 09 Jun 2005 05:31:AM
The Turkey v Greece games was FTA on the Setanta Channel on B3.
Posted By: fsking Re: about programming rights - Thu 09 Jun 2005 05:33:AM
When I was searching the channel list on my Strong 4800-II, I found the channel but the game was allready started and it was 14th minute. If it was encrypted, probably before I found the channel. Anyway, we all know their freq. and its obviously open when they do not encrypt it....
