In the market for a new STB - AUS-CITY Message Forums

I'm in the market for a STB. People have suggested the Opentel and the Xtreme, what do others think? I basically want it for IR2, future proofing for TvPlus, and I also to just much around with it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

For me I would spend a little more and buy a dreambox as there are to many rubbish products on the market today. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/default/smile.gif" />

Dreams seem very complicated with all that Linux stuff

Ive found the Homecast receiver to be a very honest and reliable receiver and easy to use. I also had a good run with the Topfield 3000 CiPro to be good.

I use Opentel, Strong, KosCom and few others and I reckon, Strong is the best of all. <img src="http://www.delicaparts.com/Satellite/Smilies/S_Cool.gif" alt=" - " /> BTW, Dreambox which I'd like to have, is out of my range ($$$) <img src="http://www.delicaparts.com/Satellite/Smilies/S_Siroma.gif" alt=" - " />

Thanks guy for your help, I've looked at the Opentel one and it does seem the best value. What doe people think about the Humaxs?

once you play a little with dreams..they arent that complicated....like any toy, just needs a litle playtime. BTW 7000's are no longer available, next one is the 7020...they are expensive but very versatile. If you just want to watch TV the cheapest box will do it....ie dreamax-470(ucas)or humax. But for future proof you cant go past dreamboxes and they have the most diverse support available.

But the trouble is guys aren't prepared to spend time understanding them. I have spent around 50 + hours and I'm still scratching my head but I'm still miles in front of others.

I've heard good things about the dreambox but I still don't own one. But I have many others.

I see the price of the new dreambox is nearly $1000 for this it must be good but not many have them as you have to be smart to be able to use them.

They are worth every cent they cost.

you can get the 500si(cut down 5620)...not badly priced, or if you look hard 5620(cut down 7000).....great box and better priced generally than the 500si. Then there the older 7000...great box getting harder to find....might be a different story when the 7025 come out. Then there's the 7020....better than the 7000 but still pricey. 7025...lots of promised features....big bucks 7080/85 has been scrapped. Hope this helps

How good is the STRONG 4652 receiver?? Any suggestions?

Hope this helps <hr /></blockquote>For me the 7025 will be the go, I know its money but for me I would save my money and either buy a used 7000 or the new 7025, ALL I can say is learn how a dreambox works , DON'T BE LAZY! and forget anything else they belong in the last century's technology.

I have spent the last week learning how to use the 7000 model with Da Vinci image in it and I'm now learning how to use it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/default/grin.gif" /> I can share now my Aurora card from my box to my brothers box 6 km away. I'm happy just to do this and this alone has taken me over a month to understand how to do it. Its the only way to learn how the suckers work.

What is one to do if Linux is alient to them though?

not sure what alint means but it's like anything....just need to get a grip on it.

Sontime a little help from a friend that knows these devils goes a long way.

The word I meant to type was alien... I meant if Linux is strange to someone how do they use the Dreambox units... ew_289, All my mates know about is how to get pron and body building.

there is plenty online to read and learn...ask questions and in no time you're away.
