I just saw a message scrolling down the bottom of the screen saying that as of the 1st of April it will cost and extra $9.95 to have Lig TV as part of the package.
Why?
From UBI Site
Available as an add-on channel for $9.95 per month or stand-alone for $39.95 per month. Terms and conditions apply.
Yeah, I saw that on the UBI site as well.
I'd like to know why its been part of the package until now with no extra cost, and is now suddenly becoming an extra?
Lig TV has been part of the package since the start as UBI has subsidised it.
From the 1st April UBI will no longer be subsidising it and will be a add on or an a-la-carte channel as it is in Turkey on DigiTurk.
So you are removing a major channel on April 1st and charging extra for those that wantit with no reduction in sub prices. Hmmm April Fools indeed
AS for Digi Turk how is that even relevant.
what do you expect, they have to steal from somewere and we are the suckers, spanish channel coming soon, foxtel channels too, ubi is a as tarbs, a joke and run by crooks, sorry but it`s true.
just keep putting more of those crap arab channels, dubai sports was graet but now is as f**ked as the rest.
UBI or should I say TARBS have done it again. So those people they recently locked into 6 month contracts with the lure of the free boxes will lose Lig which is the main reason why a lot have signed up, or pay extra, they cannot opt out because of the contract, which is also locked in to an automatic withdrawal from either a credit card or account. The other option $39.95 for Lig on its own, if Lig is worth this much why isn't the cost for the package minus LIG coming down substantially, there is something really shifty going on here. I for one will be checking with consumer affairs to see if they have not contravened contract agreements. I expect that UBI will be losing many Turkish customers. At this rate it will be better to subscribe to Lig tv online on a pay per view, this will be much cheaper even with the burden of the download costs.

... I expect that UBI will be losing many Turkish customers ...
I'm in total agreement with MadScientist on this point. The Turkish community has been a major supporter of UBI, but removal of LigTV from the package is in my opinion going to result in a mass disconnection by Turkish customers. (me being one of them)
i think ubi is seeing this as: turks like this tv very much and most turks are subs. coz of this tv station so if they like it so much they ll pay it!
that`s exactly how it is night_flight, you are 100% correct.
liski you don`t need to show us the contract, we all know that they are writen with loopholes to cover you ass, never to protect the custemer, i agree the only way is to canceled the subscription, kick them were it hurts. if you have a contract it dosen`t mater, don`t be scare, because they broke the contact, all you have to do is call your bank and tell them to put a stop on payments to ubi from your card. that`s all. and there`s nothing they can do trust me. don`t get upset liski, but will all know that this is about dollars.
You're correct. It is all about the “dollars” but it’s the dollars that DigiTurk/Lig TV request for the channel. So if you want to continue having Lig TV broadcasted into Australia then you must pay for the privilege. I don't think it's fair for UBI to subsidise it any further when they are upping the cost to UBI.
So far the uptake of the add on is going well. If the uptake of Lig TV doesn’t go so well then it will show DigiTurk that the channel isn’t as popular as the money they believe they deserve for it.
I feel sorry for the people who become so dramatic and cancel their whole service over this. The husband might watch a few hours of Lig TV during the week but the wife would be the one watching UBI Turkish channels during the week so if they wish to cancel it then so be it.
Yes you can stop your automatic debits and “break” your UBI Contract but at the end of the day any amount owing on your account will be forwarded to a debit collector.
... The husband might watch a few hours of Lig TV during the week but the wife would be the one watching UBI Turkish channels during the week ...
People that disconnect will just start doing what they did before UBI (or even TARBS) was around, go to their local Turkish video guy and hire the shows they want to watch (costs a lot less than $70 a month).
Although, since some Tukish TV networks (Kanal D being an example) now allow people to watch their most popular shows free via the Internet, we can just increase our download limits and watch from there.
I like how its worded "vary the service", "discontinue part of the service" rather vague. Seems it should be "remove popular channels, that we can make more money out of by charging extra for"
It might be nice if UBI clarified this part of the contract? seems more like a get out of jail loophole that can be used to chop and change the channel lineup.

A friend advises that section B as written above won't hold up in any court.
ROLL on April FOOLS day..!
SelecTV have a similar Clause in there contract I guess to apsattv's view its not legal aswell.....

• changing or withdrawing a Channel "
yes and Selectv's looks to be the best written. The Mysat service also clearly states that they can remove channels. UBI'S is very vague and could state things more clearly.
There is also a big difference with SelecTV and UBI trading terms - all SelecTv customers are only on a 30 day contract.
If you are not happy with the SelecTV service - you can cancel at any time with no penalty as long as you return the Smart Card to SelecTV.
(A fee of $50 applies if you do not return the SelecTV Smart Card)
I've cancelled my UBI.
TARBS sold its boxes in its last days to get some extra cash.
UBI brought some fee for payments other than direct debits, now extra fee for LIG tv.
It's like having deja vu all over again.
It's all a conspiracy to go into a receivership again!
I've cancelled my UBI ...
Yep, same here. I've already started to hire videos from my Turkish Video guy ( @ 50 cents each).
Speaking to my Turkish mates, most of their family's will be cutting their UBI service, main reason they held it was for ligtv, what a mistake UBI!
Off the topic:
For you Macedonian / Croatian / Turkish / Greek soccer fans... you can watch all games live on the net Sunday morning on jumptv.com for $7.95USD you get a 24hour pass… Saves you going to one of your clubs and getting ripped $25 each to watch it.
If they are determined to terminate over Lig TV then there is not much I can do. The cost of Lig TV to UBI has increased so I don’t think UBI should be burdened with the extra cost.
There was a UBI rep on Vizyon last night discussing the Lig TV issue.
I hope people don't subscribe to LigTV. That'll teach LigTV that you can't go around bullying providers! Next thing you know they'll be asking for 20 bucks ontop of everything else.
Liski,
If you honestly expect the Turkish community to buy your story of LIG TV increasing their cost to you then the UBI CEO who by the way is TURKISH, should come out openly and publish the request letter from LIG TV in all of the Turkish Community papers. This will not only help UBI's case but will then ensure people do not cancel their subscription on the belief that UBI is just plainly exploiting the current members. Don't forget it was the Turkish community that basically funded UBI in its early days. The reason I suggest this is because I myself do not believe it due to the fact that when UBI was launched I contacted several TV stations and found out that UBI informed them of what it intended to charge for the monthly subscription. Unfortunately UBI told one station in particular that thepublic would be charged only $30 a month and not the current $60 we pay. Based on this I wonder how much UBI is actually paying for the access rights?
The CEO of UBI is no longer Turkish.
There is no need to go to the Turkish papers as we had a UBI rep on the Vizyon program TeleVizyon last night which will be repeated today at 1715 discussing this very issue.
I highly doubt UBI would've told that particular broadcaster that it indents to charge $30 a month. Maybe that particular broadcaster was giving you a price in US$ or Euro.
Rights is one thing but don't forget to factor in the deliver costs – it’s not free to bring the channels to Australia!
That explains it further. Now the CEO is no longerTurkish go after them for as much as you can make. 9:15pm is not to best time to inform people as some of do have other things than just Vizyon 24 hours a day. As for the $30 yes it was AUD. I wonder what UBI's position would be if Turkish customers started a boycott by cancelling on mass. Would UBI sacrifice $60 for the sake of getting a further $10?? Well the answer might be yes if they want to end up like TARBS. As per Sharp and Imparator_Terim, I too will cancel my three subscriptions.
It's being repeated today at 1715 and also next week.
The former CEO of UBI is still part of UBI so your theory is wrong.
All contracts are renewed every 2 years and this time around DigiTurk/Lig TV have requested more. If you feel that strongly about it please forward your complaint to the CEO of UBI or DigiTurk/Lig TV.
I haven't seen the thing on Vizyon, but I'm guessing it goes something like:
"UBI has no control over the situation, as DigiTurk/LigTV have raised their prices we have no choice but to do the same in order to keep LigTV broadcasting in Australia."
Again, I haven't seen the UBI rep, but what else could they say?
"Look, we know you won't like it, but we want the money :)"
Liski,
Lets say for argument sake that you are correct and the price of Lig TV has increased. If you don't get the number of customers paying the extra $9.95, will UBI be terminating their contract with Lig TV or will they wear the cost?
I agree Imparator, that's all they can say. I'll be asking the Turkish papers to start a petition or an email campaign directed at UBI. If we put a united front they will have no choice but to back down. As I stated before, I'm sure UBI would rather give up on the $9.95 than the $59.95.
Engineer,
I don't have any information or idea if Lig TV would be dropped if the uptake numbers are low.
I highly doubt a petition or an email campaign will work. If it's such an important channel for you to have then stop your whining, subscribe to it and support the channel you love.

That's exactly right
As I said someone needs to take issue with the wording of the contract as it stands its totally vague as to what they can get away with doing.
Engineer,
If the uptake number of Lig TV doesn't meet the required number then Australia will loose Lig TV, hopefully this answers your previous question.

Basically, shut up and cop it sweet!

yeap that's exactly what their attitute is. That's why i've cancelled it.
i'll will be canceling my subscription tooo (Liski) UBI !!! !! That's unacceptable !
See how many people just cancelled their subscription just from this forum
hope this will make UBI improve their service/subscription
Gone as in gone gone, or just gone to a la carte?
Gone as in a la carte, but I've cancelled my subscription so it was already gone for me
As long as there is a big sucker community like the Turkish one Boulos will always be rolling in millions.
Wake up and smell the roses Turks
for those who cancelled ubi, lig tv is on the web at high quality (better quality than ubi). it's US$15.95 per month or US$31 for the season.
http://www.digiturkwebtv.com/main.aspxOn this website you can also watch Show TV at high quality for free !!!
